As the title and name suggest he just screams hysterically literally every day!

Doctors have basically said its colic as they have ruled everything else out and there appears to be no discernable cause for the screaming.

I kind of feel the colic diagnosis is just because they dont know what else to suggest. But the constant screaming has been going on for about 10 weeks now honesty im starting to not enjoy spending time with him because I know most of it will be him screaming.

Its not just at a specific part of the day and when he screams nothing seems to calm him. Everything I've tried for the past 10 weeks has made literally no difference.

°He's been tested for cow milk allergy.
° We've changed his formula.
° We've tried multiple colic soloutions such as drops.
°I've read up on purple crying but im not sure its that.
°Hes been seen by several gps and our health visitor and no one seems to have any more suggestions other than he will grow out of it.

Basically everyday is him screaming for hours and it really is screaming he can be smiling one minute and then the next he's red in the face yelling so loud he can be heard from half way down the street when I have the windows open.

He is 12 weeks old and I swear its just getting worse if anything and I'm beginning to wonder if its normal to cry so much. We cant even go to hour long baby group without a full on screaming fit and per day I'd average he screams for at least 12-13 hours if not more sometimes for just 50ish minutes and other times for up to 4-5hours continuously.

Please tell me im not alone and if you have any advice im all ears, I cannot do this for much longer its really stressing me out. I want to enjoy being his mummy but its almost impossible to do so when all hr does is scream. Sad

@thenorthernluce agreed. I’m one and done. People ask me when I’m having another and don’t believe me when I say I’m not. They argue it might not be the same next time, and all o can think of is IT MIGHT!!
I honestly couldn’t do it again.

I feel for you. My 3rd screamed all day every day. He was on so many different milks. He was on nutramigen and neocate. Neither worked. A friend suggested goats milk . He got so much better. Hes now 7mths. He has his moments but nothing like before. Hes on nanny care now

Not that useful but just so you know that you're not alone and ive spoke to other parents who also had babies like this. My DD did just slo o o wly improve as time went on. There was never any cause identified. At 20months she is only like this now when she's very poorly. Having said that, she is still a very loud, expressive, emotional toddler, so I do think some of it is just her personality too. I hated most of the newborn phase really. We are a much happier family as time went on especially 9m+ is when we started to see the real difference in her behaviour.

liquid omeprazole seems like it would be worth a try, thats not what we had before so ill certainly try to get the to prescribe it.

I have to agree with not having any more even the prospect of another baby being this bad is enough to put me off forever. Im pretty confident he will be an only child.

DS (who is now almost 18 yrs old) was like this. It was horrendous.
He had reflux. Getting him onto Ranitidine really helped. He still cried more Ethan other babies and woke often, but he settled down a lot.
He is also autistic. It's very common for autistic babies to cry more. Perhaps he is over stimulated. Try keeping stimulation very low key and repeating habits and input a lot - so not lots of new places, faces, colours etc but the same things over and over. See if that helps a bit.

Definitely worth trying cranial osteopathy. We didn't as he had another physical issue which would have made this problematic, but other friends swore by it and said their babies went from screamers to smilers in a single session.

Mylittlepony374 · 06/03/2020 15:18

As everyone else said, reflux. Omeprazole. Cranio osteopathy. And also for us, probiotics seemed to help. I can't remember the name as my screamer is 3 now but we got from chemist, a brand with variants depending on formula or breast fed, and really really seemed to help.
You have my sympathies. I think she was around 6 months when things improved so hang on in there. She's a lovely toddler now!

She's a lovely toddler now!

Haha funny you should say that when its at its worst I console myself that he will be a lovely toddler and all those we meet with beautiful placid babies will have tantrumming 2 year olds. Smile

Thank you all so much for the great advice. Its good to know we have a few more things to try and hopefully the end is a mere few months away as apposed to several years. Grin

My DS2 is nearly 17 now, and is so lovely, totally worth it. When I read a post like yours OP, it totally takes me back to those days. We never risked having a third child, no way could we have gone through that again!

Zisforstripyoss · 06/03/2020 18:04

I had a very screamy unhappy baby. Turned out it was silent reflux. Luckily, after a bit of fobbing off, I saw a doctor who's child had also suffered from it and was able to diagnose it straightaway. Got some ranitidine and she was like a different baby from the first dose.

I’ve made a thread about my fears and absolute terror of falling pregnant again. I’m sure it’s because of the tough time we’ve had with DD.
