Finished this morning so creating this to keep us motivated! I don't know what I will do next and only know that this morning I REALLY needed Sarah to keep me going so may well use W9 podcast for a bit.

Found you. Marking my place and hoping this thread will help make me accountable

SweetNorthernRose · 06/03/2020 13:21

I'm currently going back to C25K after completing it in 2018 then doing the Manchester 10k last may...barely run since!
My aim is to get back up to 5k distance then start going to my local Park Run on Saturdays to try and keep up some momentum.

Ulysses · 06/03/2020 14:57

Placemarking - hopefully will join you properly next Friday Smile

CormoranStrike · 06/03/2020 15:30

Thank you for starting this. I have had a week long break after my 5k, but will be starting again this weekend.

sovielverloren · 07/03/2020 12:08

I mentioned this ages ago on the other thread, but I intend to do this: www.sportrelief.com/challenges/beat-beethoven next weekend. Not the organised one, but download it on BBC Sounds afterwards.
So my mini challenge is to do 3 runs between now and then (this is where I may fall down - getting up at 5.30am to go for a run may not be as appealing when it is not something to tick off an app...)

Do people really lose fitness that quickly after finishing couch to 5k that if they have a few weeks of no running after finishing it, they have to start again? I’m only part way through the c25K but it’s worrying hearing that all that improvement will be lost if it’s not maintained very regularly.

scissy · 07/03/2020 12:31

It depends on how much running you're doing. When I've had to take a break due to injury then I've not had to go back to the beginning, (i might go back to the equiv of week 6-7 if it's been a couple of months) but I got the running bug and have been running considerably more since I graduated several years ago.
You also get your fitness back faster ime.

SweetNorthernRose · 07/03/2020 13:34

I've gone back in at week 6 after about 8 months of not running, although I have been going to gym classes instead so am not totally unfit.

sovielverloren · 08/03/2020 20:35

Checking in for accountability. Felt so weary today, did not think I was going to get out. Felt a bit better by 4 and pushed myself. Struggled, did 24 mins and was a bit clockwatchy so by no means a perfect run. But I went - and "solo" ie. without coach! How was everyone else's weekend?

OP posts:
SweetNorthernRose · 08/03/2020 21:22

Back on week 7 run 1 for me...should have been 25 mins but carried on to the end of our street so ended up about 26 or so mins. Hope it's ok for me to get involved btw as I haven't posted on previous C25K threads...😐

Florabella · 09/03/2020 08:56

I did my first post C25k run yesterday morning. I only managed 24 minutes, but given that I have been out the night before and had a fair amount of wine I was just pleased I made myself go out. I missed having Jo encouraging me though, so I might keep replaying wk9 for my next few runs.

Florabella · 10/03/2020 19:44

Back out this morning and managed 5k in 34 mins. Need to just keep doing the 5k and hopefully get a bit quicker each time. How are you other graduates doing?

sovielverloren · 10/03/2020 20:49

Well done @Florabella! Gives me hope as we matched on the first solo run! I didn't go out tonight but am wfh tomorrow and will need to get out so delayed. Knowing you did 34 mins will hopefully keep me going (under no illusions I will get to 5k though!)

@sovielverloren - fingers crossed for your run this morning!

TrebleBadger · 11/03/2020 07:34

I graduated C25k at my local Parkrun on Saturday.
I also went out for my first post graduation run last night and it was delightful.
I'm running with a local running group where there are a few of us C25k graduates. We keep each other going when there is no Laura or Jo in your ear :)

Well done everyone on getting this far! I believe this has been a life changer for me

Beebers111 · 11/03/2020 07:36

Can I join?
Yesterday I saw a video of myself at a wedding and I’m truly appalled by what I look like. Particularly as I was ramming a canapé into my mouth.
Doing my first run this morning after school run.

Can I ask how fast you run?

sovielverloren · 11/03/2020 08:50

@Beebers111 I run very, very slowly... I have just completed Couch to 5K programme which was excellent - I was on this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/3784130-Couch-to-5k-newbies-whos-in which may be better for you just now. It supported me as I got started and felt I couldn't even cope running 1 minute. 9 weeks later and I am indeed running 30 minutes! but I appreciate that feels very far away so really recommend you find buddies on the other thread to keep you going step by step - then we'll see you over here in a few months!
Hope that doesn't sound dismissive, it's meant to be helpful!

Sooooo. Run this morning became lunchtime, became this evening. BUT. It's done! Day didn't go entirely to plan but at 6pm I was able to head out. And oh my goodness. If Strava isn't having me on, it's my best time yet. Pace 4:27/km as opposed to 6:51 on Sunday. Still somehow only did 24 minutes but did more than 5k!!! So happy. AND I changed my route and tried a bona fido hill. Working from home suits me, clearly.
How's everyone else getting on? @TrebleBadger, well done on your graduation. I'm happy to keep running on my own as it's good me time, but interested to hear about how people are getting on with others.

Hello! I can finally join you all! I've finished c25k and done two good runs since. This morning was 8km in the sunshine before I start working from home as my office is now closed. I'm so glad I started running - I think it's going to be the thing to keep me sane over the next few weeks/months.

sovielverloren · 18/03/2020 07:55

Hi @redavocado! I was thinking of you recently when I realised our chat about Westminster running routes is now very much on hold! I went into London yesterday but am now working from home. Went for a run this morning to start getting into a routine. I walk a lot when I commute so will notice very quickly that I am not doing enough so will try and counter balance that!
I'm also really glad that I started running and that I enjoy it so much alone, so hopefully can continue.

After graduating last Sunday, I managed my first 5K today since then.I run right around the loch and the sun was washing and it was a beautiful escape from the madness surrounding us. I am so grateful for doing C25K. It's the perfect tonic and just might be a sanity saver no matter what else happens.

sovielverloren · 22/03/2020 11:40

Good to hear from you @Ulysses, envious of your lovely surroundings. I'm still managing 2 or 3 times a week - generally do about 25 minutes and struggling to push myself for that last 5. Varying distances as well, depending on how fast I am! (Never fast). I'm so pleased I have this as I think it's really beneficial to my mental health at this time. And now the sun is shining it's a short time when things seem all right.

Hiya! Graduated a few weeks ago but was too chicken to join you straight away 🤣 I’ve managed to keep going three times a week. I just keep using the final podcast. I don’t feel I’m getting much faster yet but will keep going for now!

TheNavigator · 12/05/2020 08:05

I graduated a while ago but have just found you to have a wee boast that I have managed 5km in 30 mins. After I completed the programme, I decided to work on speed, not distance, until I could do 5km inside 30mins and yesterday I just sneaked in at bang on 30mins, 6min for 1km pace on the nose Grin

I am not sure what to do next as I am worried about increasing distance as the posterier achilles tendon in one foot can niggle if I run too much. The joys of old age - I'm always telling my daughter to stretch after a run, but of course a lithe body in its 20s doesn't ache and injure.
