Post op gift ideas!

My DM is due to have a hysterectomy in a few weeks, she has an underlying condition which is why she's having the op but will likely mean longer recovery time.

So, are there any good gift ideas for Mother's Day we can get her to help her through the recovery period?

She has a fire stick and Netflix & prime subscriptions, not a big reader but has a decent tablet and access to kindle lending library books. Not a crafter either, that's where my imagination runs out...

Jigsaws might work.
Pack of cards and a book of card games for one person.
Solitaire board. You can get some lovely, ornamental wooden ones.
Windowsill herb garden.
Cushions.
Candles.

A bottle and decent travel mug. For the first few days, it could get difficult to sit up properly for a drink. Properly sealed things meant I could just sit up a bit, and much better than a straw and cup.

Some decent oil like coconut for her skin. Mine dried out loads, especially in the hospital.

Meals taken into the hospital.

Prunes to help make her go.

One of those bed tray things for the days she's too knackered to get out of bed.

I would encourage her to download things before she goes in. Most hospitals have a black spot, and even accessing the hospital network can be bad for patients.

If she hasn't got any, some in-ear headphones. Over-ear makes lying on the side difficult.
Earplugs are also a godsend. Same with a sleep mask.

Flipflop/sliders for the bathroom especially.

I did this exact thing for a female relative recently! I included a good book, a phone charging pack thing for hospital, eye mask for sleeping, ear plugs, nice hand cream, new slippers, puzzle books, notebook and nice pen, soft scarf, photo of her beloved cat.

Moisturisers
A hot water bottle
Some stationary to write to family and friends
Back scratcher
Tummy support band
Some indoor flowers
If she has a window view maybe a bird table to watch?

And and some baby wash. She’s not going to be able to use anything scented to wash with for some time.

Something like a bodhi towel. Very soft towel that folds small. She will need something soft and doesn’t shed to dry her stitches. Hospital towels aren’t always the softest nor are they really that big. And the bodhi towel dries incredibly quick.

She also might be incredibly thirsty afterwards. Or dry mouth in general. So mints, boiled sweets or something to help.

Lib balm if she’s not using an oil that can be used everywhere.

I think it’s peppermint tea that I was adviced to drink to help relieve wind/constipation afterwards.

Paracetamol, they will discharge her with some pain relief but these are so cheap to buy they don’t prescribe any for home. I would avoid ibprofen unless her surgical team say they are fine.

She might surprise people and have a quick recovery. Mine was supposed to be 12 weeks due to other health complications. I was recovered by week 5.
