Do you have a dining table?

I’m torn between having an island with seating ... or no island and just a table

Where’s the rest of the kitchen? As in, the fridge and dishwasher, washing machine etc. Finding it hard to visualise. But I like the second option with the table better than the island. I don’t think there’s quite enough space otherwise.

Akitchen island just doesnt loook right when it is set for Christmas/ Easter lunch or a dinner party

An island isn’t a substitute for a table in my opinion. I really hate sitting at those bar stools for more than 2 mins. They’re uncomfortable and not safe for kids.

Do you have a dining room and a utility room? If not I'd forget the sofa and have a line of units up the long wall with wall units above the put the table on the LHS. If you have a utility room and don't cook much then maybe you will be fine with so few units.

Yewtown · 05/03/2020 15:46

I have all 3. The island is a good place for a coffee or a glass of wine as people tend to congregate around it. It would be a pin to dine at as it would need to be cleared before a meal. A kitchen table is much more versatile. My dining room seems only to be used for Christmas Dinner.

I have a table at one end of the kitchen that we eat all our meals off. It extends to seat 12 if required.

Why don’t you put your kitchen units in the little sticky out bit and have table and sofa in the main part of the room?

I also think you need more kitchen cupboards. That really isn’t much storage space unless you have a utility room somewhere else.

Dining table in the kitchen. Kitchen table in the playroom (for colouring at).

We eat all meals at the table. I find being up on a stool uncomfortable so we don't have that option in our kitchen.

Like you, I always wanted an island but went to stay with someone recently who has one and it got on my nerves! I have come away from there thinking that islands only work in quite large kitchens. When you squeeze one in, as it seems you would have to do, it just gets in the way.

Dining table in dining room. Hate tables in the kitchen, wouldn't want to eat in the kitchen, prefer to eat in a separate room.

Antique inherited table in dining room, only seats six comfortably or eight at a pinch.

Twelve seater table at one end of the conservatory, used a lot.

Kitchen table with four chairs, very useful for sitting at for jobs like potato peeling. Not used much for eating, OK for a cup of coffee.

We have a dining table in dining room and a bench seating area with table in kitchen.
We mostly use dining table in dining room.
In summer we will use kitchen more

Spacetree · 05/03/2020 18:22

Have a small dining room with a table but no seating or table in the kitchen.
