Terminal cancer
She only wants to see close family and friends around her.
My best friend and I are going to do tag team-
We want to read a book/a to her in shifts - we’re thinking it has to be something with a beautiful story or autobiography?

I’m not a reader at all regretfully but would love to have a stash to choose from

Thank you very much

it is beautiful to hear books read by an actor.

Very much depends on the narrator though - some of them obviously don't prepare properly and place the emphasis on the wrong words - others just have irritating voices (but that could be highly personal

Wolf Hall and Bring up the Bodies are very well narrated but most of my audio are factual books - if she enjoys this, Erebus by Michael Palin (who also narrates) is good - so is Salt: A World History. Some "bits of nonsense" on audio which are comparatively short and I quite like the way they are read are Jodi Taylor's books about a time-travelling team.

Longbourn by Jo Baker is excellent. It's the Pride and Prejudice story told from "below stairs" - it's the story of the servants but with the P&P we know woven into it. Very well done - I really enjoyed it and it's very well read.

book

tthe boy, the mole, the fox and the horse would be a good book, and was a top seller in 2919. It’s like a modern Winnie the Pooh, but for adults. It’s a lovely book to sit and read, look at the illustrations etc.

My mam used to send me chicken soup for the soul books. I had a difficult and traumatic job, life wasn’t terribly fun either at the time.

But these little stories did gladden my heart.

A Time Of Gifts by Patrick Leigh Fermor. A lyrical description of walking to the mouth of the Danube in the 1930s, before WW2 swept away the old Mitteleuropa.
