Dash cams

After seeing countless accounts on here regarding road rage and brake checking/ tailgating I have been contemplating a dash cam.

If you own one, what do you think? Has it prevented people from behaving like this?

It doesn’t prevent bad behaviour but you will have the footage as evidence if you report it.

It doesn't prevent, it just gives evidence. Crashes you're in and those you've witnessed. You need to get a good one though. I've had 2x cheap ones and they're not reliable. Only caught 1/2 road rages I've been in and completely missed the 3 small crashes I've witness due to patchy recordings. Now got a nextbase with front and rear cams, much better and worth the money.

Yeah? I’ll scrap looking at the cheaper ones then 😅

My husband fitted one after he was involved in an accident and had to drag it through claims and solicitors because the other person involved tried every trick in the book to not accept responsibility. It's a decent quality one and we've been able to use it to report a near miss where a cyclist and car were nearly wiped out by a taxi. Agree with getting a slightly more expensive one to make sure you get good footage and fewer blind spots.

Get one that covers the rear too. (I have a Nextbase Duo).

Second front and back dashcam. Ours was a bit complicated to fit might be us but if you can afford it Halfords will do it for you.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 05/03/2020 11:46

I also have a Nextbase 402G. It's a few years old now, so probably quite cheap, but the footage is great resolution.

I also have it wired directly into the fusebox (just clips straight in/onto an existing fuse), so my cigarette lighter socket is free and there aren't stupid wires trailing everywhere.

Ours was a bit complicated to fit

Personally I have totally given up with suction devices. They have invariably fallen off at the most inconvenient moment (which for a dashcam renders it useless). Plus having them plonk in to your lap can take your breath away.

Phone (satnav/podcast player) is stuck to a magnet on the air vent, and dashcam bolted to the rear view mirror assembly.

Intrigued at the deleted comment haha.

Don't be. It was a child/imbecile/troll trying (and failing miserably) to be funny.
