Stay in a location with family support but we hate or move to where we love and start afresh?

We live near DPs family in an area which i was OK with before DC. Now i realise the schools are terrible, the crime levels are high and i just dont want DC growing up here. An opportunity has come up at work for us to move back to where i went to uni, which is a far far nicer place, i have friends with their own children living there still and its a lovely place to raise children (its about 3hrs away so we can easily still meet half way for a day)

We would be leaving the family support though! That said, we have once in 3 years actually used it! We dont expect grandparents to babysit weekly or anything like that but DC do see grandparents fornightly and love them a great deal

Staying here makes me unhappy, DP is happy to move and can see the benefits but are we right to do it? WWYD?

Move. 3 hours isn't too bad, and maybe the DGPs will move with you, as we did. We lived in an unpleasant part of the country as well.

I wouldn’t live somewhere you hate, that is unsafe and has poor schools for the sake of a fortnightly visit to grandparents, however beloved.

They wouldn't be able to move where we go due to extended family they see often (we don't so theyre no consideration for us).

Im glad you are saying what i thought you would, i just see everyone comment on how important family support is.

I'd move. You can build up a supportive network of friends where you move to and if it's safer, better schools for kids etc, you'll be giving your dc a better future.
