Holiday Hunting!

Hi all,
Desperately looking for a short uk break and getting a bit overwhelmed so hoping mumsnet can help with 'real life' recommendations!

Wanting to go away Monday - Friday (or Sunday) week before half term. I'm heavily pregnant, we have an active 2 year old.

Must haves;

Swimming pool
Decent accommodation (lodges or chalets type thing, don't kind a hotel if decent space)
Soft play/park areas on site
Places to eat (maybe meal deal offers?)
Stuff for toddler to do - activities, messy play, crafts etc
Not too hilly or hard to get around for me!
Ducks or animals or wildlife things?!

We live near Milton Keynes but happy to drive a few hours

We've done Center parcs, butlins, parkdean resorts and a caravan park on Isle of Wight so none of those please!

Does anyone have any gems they'd recommend?! Thanks x

potins brean sands holiday park in Burnham-on-Sea might suit? its got entertainment and a pool on sight, places to eat and if you scroll down on the accommodation page you have the choice of staying in a bungalow or in an apartment. all the best x

I really don't understand why anyone would go on holiday in the UK with this virus about. It's people going on holiday that have brought it here and now it's here, it will be people going on UK holidays that spread it unnecessarily.
I understand people have to work but going on holiday is optional madness.
Instead of going on a UK holiday then catching and spreading disease people should be thinking about what self isolation is going to be like without a supply of food and other essentials stored up.
Drawing up a list of supplies before all the aisles are full of people coughing and sneezing is time better spent than planning holidays.

holidayhuntress · 04/03/2020 20:32

@Cassandraknew I get what you're saying but are we shutting down everything now? should all restaurants, schools, cinemas, shops, parks be shut down? should we all stay home every second and not go anywhere? 87 people out of countless millions in the country have it. I feel like we can't stop life

I didn't say all those things should be shut down. However UK holidays are optional madness this year.

There is no way I'm going to a hotel or self catering holiday let and meet owners that have been mixing with people from this and potentially other countries. Touching things they have touched, sitting on the toilet, sleeping in the beds.

I've been following this virus and you will understand more when you see how our number of infections are going to rise exponentially.

A holiday is a luxury that for the sake of loved ones can be missed this year. Go start planning for your self isolation instead.

Friend is an NHS advisor, she says with hand washing, care and common sense, things will be fine.

I do take your point on board that a holiday is a choice but so are so many other things that people are continuing to do and until specific guidelines say that everyone should remain indoors at all doors, I can't see the point in worrying too much

Darwin forest in the peaks fits a lot of your criteria. Plus its fab!

CassandraKnew · 04/03/2020 20:58

The lack of confidence I have in the NHS is partly why I'm worried.

Again you are putting words into my mouth. I did not say anything at all about staying in doors now. My only point is that I think booking a holiday in the UK (or abroad) in advance, will later fill you with regret.

Consider this, if you don't book now, they will be cheaper later! If you do book now you might lose the money.

Best wishes with whatever you decide to do.

imamearcat · 04/03/2020 21:03

I think it will do more harm if we go into shit down mode. Agree with you OP just be sensible and carry on as normal. We are all still going to school, work, shops etc etc. So I don't see what difference a holiday will make.Hmm

We are going to broomhill manor cottages in Cornwall.

Tredethick Farm Cottages - amazing with little ones (if they have availability)
