Knee injury Possible meniscus worried and bored

I damaged my Knee over 3 weeks ago, I have not been able to bend or straighten it since. Using crutches and getting up the stairs on my bum. Its my left knee, so I cant drive, I cant get into work. Been told waiting list for MRI could be months so going private next week for consultations then MRI hopefully.
Has anyone any experience of this, I am reading so much contradictory info on the internet. Some positive stories would be helpful, I think I will need surgery cause I cant straighten it :-(.
I feel I am losing muscle in that leg as I cant use it correctly.

Also what can I do when I am off work need to take my mind off it a bit any suggestions? going between being bored and upset at present.

No personal experience but funnily enough I was talking to someone today who’s been one of the first people in this country to have some sort of knee meniscus transplant. Involving stem cells. Sounded pioneering stuff. She seems ok now but it was a long recovery from the sounds of it.

Hope yours is something more straight forward.

Ooo @VivaLeBeaver where did she have the transplant???

Ah, sorry I don’t know and it was just someone I got chatting to. I don’t know who she is so can’t ask.

Ooo that's exciting. My husband tore his miniscus years ago and is in pain daily with it. Hopefully they can whip it out and stick in a new one soon 🤞🏻

My husband is potentially awaiting his second ACL surgery.

He had one done years ago. They transplanted part of his hamstring to recreate the ACl.

It looks like it's blown again. He can't walk without it dislocating.

I know they're different but I can imagine the surgery and recovery are similar.

Meniscal transplants have been available on the nhs for a long time. They replace the damaged meniscus with those from cadaveric donors but that’s the last resort. They can stitch or trim it if it’s torn.

You may well have damaged your cartilage which could cause your knee to lock. Hope you get referred quickly.

They do meniscal transplants at the hospital I work at. Professor Snow is the surgeon-apparently he’s very good Grin

Just thought I might as well update this , incase anyone with the same thing is doing an internet search and this info helps.

It was a long slog but I got surgery in the end, I had a lot of scar tissue behind my knee, this was severe and restricting my movement, and I had a menicus tear, there was also talk of nerves being affected.

They broke down the scar tissue and removed the torn bit of meniscus that was unfixable sadly but happy to report my knee is good now, i have full movement. it was not an easy recovery and I do have to watch it a bit as in do physio exercises to keep the knee happy . Due to the waiting list I also had to go private.

Glad to read it turned out all right. A pity you had to go private. I hope your physio goes well and you can be as active as you want to be.
