Quick question for HR/Employment people

I work 24 hours a week over 5 days. Technically set hours per day (less on Mon/Fri and more on Tues/Wed/Thu. I have recently put in a flexible working request so that I can bunch up my 24 hours into 3 x 8 hour days only during the school holidays - for childcare purposes as it then means I can be at home 2 days each school holiday and we only then need 3 days childcare per week. My boss supports this.

So to my question - HR have ok’d the request, and then asked if I can agree with my boss the days that I will work each school holiday week (i.e. Mon - Wed in School holidays). If I say Mon - Wed each school holidays, am I effectively going to lose some holiday as the majority of bank holidays fall on a Monday, and those that fall in school holidays I will need to use up 8 hours of my annual leave for them? Am I better to have my contact state that in school hours my working days will be Tues/Wed/Thu and avoid bank holidays?

In reality, I have verbally agreed with my boss that each school holiday I will agree with him which 3 days he wants me to work according to workload/other staff etc. This works for everyone as then he is flexible when we/I need it for childcare stuff.

Thanks

You won't lose any holiday if they work it out correctly, ie in annual hours, prorata to full time hours and holiday allowance including bank holidays.

However, if your working days coincide with bank holidays and your workplace closes on bank holidays, you will need to use a day of your leave to cover the bank holiday and you will only work two days those weeks, so whether you have enough time to complete your work during those weeks might be a consideration.

Why do HR want you to be in M-W instead of T-Th? Unless your job is in HR, it isn't up to them when you will be at work.
