Child's party on Sunday

We got an invite last Fri (28th) for a party this Sunday (8th). I took it out and totally forgot to message or ask my son if he wanted to attend.

DH was asked by party-child's Mum (PCM) on Monday were we going as there was an invite in son's bag on Friday. DH said to PCM that he was working and wasn't sure of my plans so would ask me to make contact.

I texted to say son would like to attend and we'd see them there.

Only now, I have realised I'm pretty skint (I try to plan ahead for events such as this as they are usually invited with more notice) but don't want to do the shitty thing and now text saying we can't come.

What's the best action for this? I can hardly turn up without a gift but I find parties usually cost around a tenner or so and this would eat into what cash i have left until the end of March.

I always take my own drink, although a lot of parties I've been to have supplied drinks for adults. Have never paid for my own child to have a drink - food and drink for the kids has always been provided. I have noticed though that a lot of kids bring a water bottle. Places like card factory and b&m usually have a stationary set for about £2, that and a £1 pack of sweets, £3 max total. My kids would love that as a present!

Just a couple of ideas-
The Works is great if you have one close to you. They have Paint your Own stuff, bags for £1, Easter decorations for £1.50, mugs for £2.50
Card Factory have cards for 29p, or as pp have said, hand make one.
Sweeties are fine as a gift.
You could easily put together a lovely little gift for £3. Take water with you.

Poundland do some great kids books and little toys, sparkly notebooks a a pens. Couple of quid is all you need if you can spare that.

Thanks all. I will make it my task on Friday.

I probably wouldn’t even notice who gave a gift and who didn’t at my children’s parties.

Pound shop?

Can your DH not help out with the present?

At Christmas, I got my 6yo to choose a present for one of his friends. He choose a box of chocolate mini rolls. Friend was absolutely delighted...
