Extreme tiredness after eating

Dp is recovering from a gastro issue, recovery is slow but consultant advises is on track and isnt concerned.

Hes been struggling to eat a meal without feeling nauseous. Has been feeling better so ate a meal (chicken pie and mash) and is barely able to stay awake.

Is this worrying?? He is answering questions very groggilly, and says he isnt feeling sick at all, just tired, so thats good i think?

Is this just a knock on effect from his digestive system coming back into action after over 2 months of barely eating?

Would he be better eating smaller meals 6x a day than larger meals 3x a day?

I was like that after recovering from serious surgery affecting my intestinal system. I remember eating half a slice of toast and a few spaghetti hoops and just about managing to put the plate on the floor before I fell asleep from the effort of eating. I hope he's resting as much as possible. That's what he needs.

The double carbs might have something to do with it. It could be a drop in blood pressure.

I agree with smaller meals, and was dubious about having such a big meal, but dp is stubborn desperate to be 'normal' again so wanted to eat a normal dinner. Already think hes fed up with me fussing and worrying about him (its been a long 2 months for both of us) so didnt want to treat him like a child and say he wasnt allowed it.

Yes i was hoping that the exhaustion is just his body kicking into action after such a long break, but finally doing what it should be doing.

Googling after flagged that double carbs could he a cause, i hadnt realised that before so will try and monitor that for future meals.

Glad for some reassurance that its within the realms of normal though! The relief that hes not feeling sick has been tainted slightly by this new symptom but sounds like it could just be part of recovery...

Maybe lighter meals for now?

Pie & mash is a heavy meal so the choice of meal was probably the problem

Yes i think lighter meals are the way forward, it was dp that suggested pie, and then ate half the bloody thing so it was difficult to say no to an adult about food he wanted to eat. Ill try and get to the shop without him and pick something myself for the next few meals.

In bed now, he is still very very sleepy but able to get himself some juice, go to the bathroom etc without any major struggle so not concerningly sleepy i dont think.

Just his body going wtf to having some actual food in it i think! Been living on milkshake meal replacement thingies and soup for the last month or so...
