Book Day- going 'as a word'

Orangeblossom78 · 03/03/2020 17:33

So, we have a new thing for book day where they need to dress as a 'word'. Preferably an adjective but could be a noun, apparently.

Examples give, such as 'incandescent' 'snowball'

Any ideas welcome, DH is ill and have no ideas / quite stressed. DC says 'blue' and can dress in blue and be sad! But wondered about something else perhaps

Google Vocabulary parade, loads of ideas there

MyHairNeedsASnip · 03/03/2020 17:36

Fluorescent is a nice one if you have anything suitable. I'm happy they're doing pyjamas at DC's school this year so I don't have to think about it

Thanks!

"Myself" is always a word... Grin

Haworthia · 03/03/2020 17:47

Jesus Christ, I’d rather get a Harry Potter costume from Asda (which is what I have done).

Fedupandpoor · 03/03/2020 17:54

My dc school are doing this! DD is going as love, and ds as happy! I bought some fabric pens from amazon and will draw hearts and write love in different languages on a white shirt for DD and make her a red tutu (easy no sew tutorial on YouTube).

Ds will have a big Aciiiiiid happy face on his shirt! Grin

Pieceofpurplesky · 03/03/2020 17:55

I would send mine in as a 'naughty boy' and tell him to act up all day!

Radiant sunrise (yellow and orange)

Dark sky (black)

Azure ocean (blue and white?)

pudseypie · 03/03/2020 17:57

We have this too... I don't like a dress up event where I can't order something from amazon for it! Ds wants to go as a green stop sign - not quite sure that fits the brief but he's determined...

gassylady · 03/03/2020 17:57

Surely better to go as “the word” ie grease!

ladygracie · 03/03/2020 17:58

My friend’s daughter is going as colourful so she can wear what she likes as long as it’s all different colours. Would that work?

Stripeyfrog · 03/03/2020 18:01

My DS school is also doing this (as if WBD wasnt annoying enough)
Maybe start the opposite way round and ask what her ideal outfit (if no restrictions were applied) would be, and then think of a word to describe it.
Multicoloured/stripy/extravagant/luxurious/bohemian etc etc

magbob · 03/03/2020 18:02

Atlas. Use maps printed onto t-shirt transfers. Dictionary. Print definitions onto t-shirt transfers. I've done both of these. I also drew a world map onto a plastic mask that I found in hobby craft.

PanicAndRun · 03/03/2020 18:06

Sleepy - onesie
Colourful- anything that makes them look like a rainbow threw up on them
Brave- superhero, knight, Gryffindor student and brave character really

Smart- scientist type thing. If no outfit, dad's old white shirt with some glasses and a clipboard. Or just the shirt or go as matilda

Sporty- football kit

Kind - any character that shows kindness

Fluffy - onesie or animal outfit

Clumsy - Mr bump

And so on.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 03/03/2020 18:11

In the beginning was the word.

Go as God.

PanicAndRun · 03/03/2020 18:25

Surely everyone knows that bird is THE WORD.

LER83 · 03/03/2020 19:34

My dc's school is doing this. Dd is going as Descendent because she wants to wear her Evie costume from the Disney Descendents film! Ds hates any kind of dressing up, told him to wear whatever and go as reluctant! Or wear his playstation top and go as obsession!

wallflowersunited · 03/03/2020 19:35

If it's a church school print a picture of the bible and stick it on the front and back of a t-shirt.

Letthemysterybe · 03/03/2020 19:36

Sporty = PE kit

Kanga83 · 03/03/2020 19:39

Grease or God. They are the words. Anything else is just a word.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 03/03/2020 19:40

I think your DC's suggestion is rather good actually.

Or how about saving yourself lots of trouble and sending DC in clearly unclean clothes as 'dirty' or 'filthy'. Grin

ScorpionQueen · 03/03/2020 19:43

I've told my class to come as kind, smart, sporty, funny etc. and wear their own clothes. I don't want anyone making work for themselves.

CountFosco · 03/03/2020 19:43

DD is Y6 and has been planning her book character costume all year only for school to announce they were doing this two weeks ago. So she's going as 'evil' and dressing as Bellatrix Lestrange. DS is going as 'magic' and is wearing a Hogwarts uniform. As if WBD wasn't a big enough pain as it is. Roll on secondary school where they do a readathon.

Kanga83 · 03/03/2020 19:45

In all serious was though your sons idea is pretty good. Or wear any costume he has, find the character in a book, take book and show the teacher it in print. It's there as a word.

Largeyellowdaffodil · 03/03/2020 19:46

Absent

take the day off.

wallflowersunited · 03/03/2020 19:47

Lazy.
Sit there with their feet up on the desk and refuse to do any work.
only recommended if you have a new school place lined up
