What time is bedtime for your 2 year old?

If my DS has had a nap in the day then I start bedtime routine around 6-7 ish. If he hasn't had a nap he is exhausted by tea time, and I start his bath around 5 so he's in bed for 6. Does this sound too early?

He wakes up at 7 when he hears my husband getting ready for work

If it suits him and he sleeps it isn't too early.

I can't help feeling he doesn't have much family time with his dad (unless his dad is at home earlier sometimes), if he goes to bed at 6pm. He also doesn't sit at the table with parents to eat dinner which I think is a good thing to happen from babyhood.

However he won't be bedding down at 6pm for long and as you say, he sleeps so why worry? You're his mum, you know best.

Motherofmonsters · 03/03/2020 16:11

We start bedtime for DS between 6 and 6.30. we have tea all together at 5 as DH finishes at 4. DH does bath/bed so that's there time together

Camomila · 03/03/2020 16:11

They all need different amounts of sleep.

When DS1 was 2 he'd have a 3h nap every afternoon then go to sleep at 9pm - because that worked for us, we all had dinner together at 6.30 then do bath/stories etc at 8pm.

namesneeded · 03/03/2020 16:16

Dad doesn't get home until 6.30pm, so they have a bit of time together in the mornings and then weekends. If DS has napped then DH is usually
Home in time to do books with DS before bed.
DS sits at the table with me for dinner and i have a little portion of whatever I've cooked for him during the week, but we all sit together Sat and Sun

I'm 39 weeks pregnant also, I think that means that a) I'm exhausted and don't always have the energy for a walk in the rain to get him to sleep/ carrying round to car for a drive to get him to sleep (he doesn't sleep in cot during day anymore unfortunately) and then carrying him back in to sofa, and b) I'm exhausted and can't wait to put my feet up at 6pm!!

He's not getting up stupidly early, so that sounds fine.

riotlady · 03/03/2020 16:42

Sounds fine! We start the bedtime process for DD around 7 so she’s usually asleep by 7.30ish. She usually has a 2 hour nap in the afternoon on days she’s at home but only 1 hour (sometimes none) if she’s at nursery

RhymingRabbit3 · 03/03/2020 17:14

My daughter is nearly 3. She goes to bed at 7 usually but 6.30 or even a bit earlier if she has had a busy day and/or no nap. She sleeps all night until 7 so I figure it's not too early or she would be waking up earlier. Sometimes she tells us shes tired and wants to go to bed earlier.

ItsClemFandangoCanYouHearMe · 03/03/2020 17:18

Bed at 7. We've dropped the nap
though.

Remmy123 · 03/03/2020 18:09

Bath at 6.30, bed at 8 sleeps until 7ish

okiedokieme · 03/03/2020 18:12

We always ate together around 6.30 so my kids went to bed about 8, woke at 7.30 /8 in time for a quick breakfast and school bus at 8.30 - thankfully we were the last stop. Family dinners are really important

mindutopia · 03/03/2020 18:13

Both of ours go upstairs for bath around 7-7:30, then 2 year old usually asleep by 8-8:30. Wakes up between 6-7 most days. No way we could do it earlier as there just isn’t time.

NeverGotMyPuppy · 03/03/2020 18:18

DS is 18 months but still having 2 naps (30 mins in the morning, 2 hours in the afternoon) and is in bed by 7.30, wakes anywhere between 6 and 6.30.

Letthemysterybe · 03/03/2020 18:27

No nap and bath at 6, asleep by 6:30.
