Wedding photographer company has been closed down

We got married 4 years ago and I have gone online to finish off selecting the remaining photos for our wedding album and the four canvases that were part of the package we chose, to find that the website does not exist anymore. After doing some searching it appears that the company was closed down/dissolved etc nearly two years ago (according to Companies House).

What on earth can we do? I’m trying to get hold of the CAB for advice but was on hold so long I had to hang up.

The reason we have not ordered the photos before now was that we were very disappointed in the them, and they said take your time as a lot of people can take several years to order them. I know we were disappointed but to possibly end up with absolutely no photos is very upsetting.

And what would they have done with all the digital images? Dumped them? We can’t be the only customers ones affected. I’d be happy to just have those and get them printed ourselves.

Why on earth would you wait four years to get something you paid for up front? If you were disappointed with the photos you needed to have dealt with that and asked for a partial refund at the time, or in some way resolved it (asked them to retake photos of the two of you at least?) "people take several years to order them" sounds like absolute bollocks to me. Do you have a way of contacting the company owner - they may still have the files and at least let you have those?

Ariela · 03/03/2020 13:48

If you look on companies house, find the directors and hopefully they'll at least still have and be able to let you have the digital images, sadly what you paid for was to the limited company and I doubt they'll honour that. But you might have to accept they are gone forever.

More than likely they would of already got rid of them before they closed down.

Take your time, is maybe 6 months, Not 4 years

crustycrab · 03/03/2020 13:49

4 years?!!!

Damnloginpopup · 03/03/2020 13:50

Try and track down the photographer. I was one and have all my wedding negatives and digital files still, going back to the 90s. Dumped most of the other stuff over the years but figured these were a bit more important, even though I know of a good few divorces. Keep your fingers crossed, I hope you get lucky.

Travis1 · 03/03/2020 13:51

They closed down 2 years ago? WTH? I unfortunately think you have very little hope of getting those photos if you didn't download them at the time.

zhivagodr · 03/03/2020 13:54

Sorry but this is absolutely bizarre. As a previous poster said, take your time is months... but four years?! Come on.

coconuttelegraph · 03/03/2020 13:55

I suspect you are far too late to do anything now, 4 years is an extremely long time to make your mind up

DesLynamsMoustache · 03/03/2020 13:56

Four years Shock You could try find the business owner on FB or somewhere and send a message to see if they still actually have the files, I suppose. Our photographer had info in her TCs and Cs about how long galleries would be kept for.

Cookit · 03/03/2020 13:56

Do you have ANY photos?

What have you been looking at to make your decision on? - surely they must have sent you something that you’ve been choosing between?

SillyMoomin · 03/03/2020 13:56

You didn’t like them = should have dealt with that at the time??, not 4 blinking years later Hmm

Gods sakes

Youcunnyfunt · 03/03/2020 13:59

Hah Grin

It's worth trying to find the photographers and asking them if they kept any files, lots do.

This is exactly why you shouldn't take so long to sort out your photo orders... I offer slightly different services but you've got ONE MONTH to contact me and files are archived after 3, so tough luck if you order and pay within those times. My setup is slightly different, but there is no way I'm paying for a massive server to store 2 million photos per month increasing until the end of all time...

mebeforeyou · 03/03/2020 14:12

Our wedding day was awful in many respects. The photos are disappointing and as such have not ordered - not because we could not decide. As for addressing our disappointment at the time - what exactly would the photographer have done? The photos are taken and the wedding is over - it can’t be re-done.

Thanks to the few who gave some suggestions to try; to the others thanks for making me feel terrible and humiliated for my stupidity.

crustycrab · 03/03/2020 14:17

They're just photos, surely you have some others?

The photographer can't be expected to pay to store photographs indefinitely. Track them down on fbook and ask?

GloGirl · 03/03/2020 14:59

I'm like this so I understand OP. They may well still have the images, photography takes up a lot of cost in storage, but someone might well have the lot on some old hard drives which dont take up much physical space.

Try reaching out via local Facebook groups?

GloGirl · 03/03/2020 15:00

After 4 years I expect they are under no legal obligation to still have hold of them? Current company or closed.

listsandbudgets · 03/03/2020 15:24

OP waiting 4 years was a bit longer than most people wait.

However, I've got half an hour or so to spare. If you PM me the details of the company / any names you know I can dig about companies house for you to see if I can turn up any of the directors contact details. You never know your luck

I had to contact someone for some research I was doing recently about a photo that was taken in or about 2000. Amazingly they still had a copy though I never expected them to

Ariela · 03/03/2020 15:58

One thing you could do, in time for your 5th anniversary, is contact all your guests and ask them to send you their favourite photo they took of your day - you could say you want to make a photobook as a 5th anniversary present for your DH perhaps?

I am sure you'll get some lovely quality photos from your guests (unless you only had two that is)

Reginabambina · 03/03/2020 16:02

You can try to get in touch with someone from the company to see if they still have them. It’s unlikely but if it were me and I still had the photos I’d give you the files.

Thisismytimetoshine · 03/03/2020 16:05

Four years... Even if they were still trading they’d be within their rights to assume you weren’t coming back! If the photos were really that rubbish you’ve not really lost much, have you?

SouthernComforts · 03/03/2020 16:32

Why do you want them now after 4 years? What's changed?

Mayhapitis · 03/03/2020 16:39

Have you got your contract?

Even if they were still running I'd be surprised if your term of service hadn't expired after 4 years.

CornishPasties · 03/03/2020 16:45

Why do you want them now after 4 years? What's changed?

That was my first thought. You said you didnt like them and in the following 4 years you have not wanted them so im also confused as to why the sudden change of mind? In all honesty I highly doubt they still have the photos. I would try asking friends and relatives instead.

SudokuQueen · 03/03/2020 17:13

Very unlikely you will get them now. You can try but it's doubtful they are paying for the servers still. You should have chosen sooner. Yeah it was disappointing but not sure why you didn't choose sooner.
