Potties.....

DS is 2 so I want to start to think about potty training. He won't be ready for a while I think but I want to introduce a potty to get the seed planted. Anyway..

That is the best potty for a boy?
Do I need one with a really high front?
Do I need non slip feet?
I don't want a "mini loo" as our bathroom is too small but want a good quality one.

I've seen the pourty but that does not have non slip feet. I've seen the antibacterial one that looks good. Also a Peppa pig one I know he will like (although I can customise any one with stickers?)

Please share your wisdom!

Also for travel (this is for the future) do you keep a cheap potty in the car or get a special travel one?

I tried many potties. In the end, the only one that was successful was the one which had a steering wheel. HmmGrin

I’ve had several but preferred the Pourty out of all of them. I still keep one in the boot of my car, just in case.

Lots of others are very difficult to empty without wee spraying everywhere.

Thanks both.

That's interesting wintercat, did you find it slippy as there's no grippy bits?

I like the IKEA one, you can remove the inner bit to empty and it pours quite nicely. We have a "My Carry Potty" in the car which you can close up and carry safely with you if you're caught short somewhere you can't immediately empty.

Thanks queen
Yes the travel one sounds good at storing "things" so not looking forward to this haha x

Neither of mine ever liked potties regardless of design - tried customising plain, pourty, one with bike handles and a mini toilet. They would sit on them for a few seconds every now and then but not for any length of time and they never actually did anything in them!

We ended up with a family toilet seat (has a mini seat built into the lid) and a step instead which they were happy to use.

I bought a cheap mini toilet seat to take out with us in a rucksack if needed.

With DC1 I used a cheapo supermarket potty, I find it hard to spend a lot of money on something that will literally get shat on. If going out we'd take this potty with us, I'd chop up some cheapo nappies and lime the potty with them. Once used, would scoop everything up into a nappy bag and chuck it in the bin.

I'm attempting to skip the potty this time and use a family toilet seat and a step.

Clangus00 · 02/03/2020 16:26

We just used a toilet seat insert & a step.

JanewaysBun · 02/03/2020 17:36

The family loo seat sounds great will look into that. Would help my space issue too....

Aldi were selling family toilet seats recently, but don't know if they've still got them in. You'd need a step as well though.

LewisFan · 02/03/2020 18:47

I just held DS over the loo when out and stuck a towel/plastic bag combo on his car seat to protect it.

At home, he had a little loo seat that went under the normal one; they weren't integrated back then

We never ever bothered with a potty. We have the toilet seat with a built in child seat. Used it from when we first started. No problem at all

Eeyoresstickhouse · 03/03/2020 17:46

IKEA one with the removable bit and then a my carry potty for out and about. Now using the toilet 90% of the time, but I still take the my carry potty out in the car just incase. So many public toilets are being closed down that its safer to carry it!
