Why am I being paid differently?

WildflowerChild · 02/03/2020 12:56

I work a normal office job, 9-5 with a set yearly wage but I’m paid differently each month

Sometimes it can be the difference of £100. Is that normal?

Sorry I know I sound stupid

Could it be number of weeks in each month?

BarbaraofSeville · 02/03/2020 13:05

No it's not normal, ask your payroll team for an explanation.

WildflowerChild · 02/03/2020 13:10

We get paid the 22nd of each month so potentially I’ve just worked more days?

How long has this been happening? Are you getting paid a different gross wage or net?

Diaryofalways87 · 02/03/2020 13:17

Is it a new job? It could be a change in tax code, or pension deductions from Auto Enrolment. The only way to know is to check your wage slip.

burnoutbabe · 02/03/2020 13:19

don't you get a payslip? is the gross changing or the net after tax. ie what number is changing each month.

slashlover · 02/03/2020 13:20

Do you know the cut off date for wages? For example, if it's a week before then the pay period is 16th of one month to the 15th of pay month.

In December pay that was 20 working days (assuming Monday - Friday)
In February pay that was 22 working days

Or you could email HR and just ask.
In March pay that was 20 working days

May I suggest that asking your employer is likely to get the actual answer, all anyone here can do is guess

BarbaraofSeville · 02/03/2020 13:23

The normal way is to pay you 1/12 of your annual salary each month, with appropriate deductions for tax, NI, pension and student loan if relevant on a set date or last working day before that date and no messing about for number of days or weeks worked.

My salary is the same within a few pence each month, but obviously different employers may do it differently.

What does your payslip tell you?
