Meal replacement drinks/shakes etc

I’m trying to work out all the meal replacements that are available to work it which one I want to try. Slim fast is grim, and looking for less of a weight loss but a more healthy alternative. So more natural/paleo maybe etc, either one that you add water to or milk.

What brands should I be looking at or ones to avoid?

I can think of Solo and Huel and then there’s so many that pop up in my Facebook feed that I can’t remember what any of them are to look now! A lot of them seem to have a minimum order, and I don’t want to order 30 if they are undrinkable.

Anyone got any ones they really like or want to avoid?

I like that chocolate flavour Slender Blend mixed with coconut milk. I only have it occasionally though so can't give you much info about it.

None are going to be as good as making your own. Get a nutribullet or similar and make up a smoothie with frozen fruits, vegetables and almond or oat milk. Add protein powder and seeds/nuts. Far better and cheaper!

there is nothing healthy about the sugar shakes, and their effectiveness for weight loss is questionable - as suits their business model of course.

if you are in normal health with teeth why not eat food? Is there any reason why you need blended nutrition? And if you do, get it prescribed.

sorry, but this stuff is muck, not food.

ps smoothies are a good way to get fat as it is difficult to see how much food you are taking in. And mushing up fruit buggers up the fibre in it. Definitely don't eat commercial smoothies, solid sugar.

eat food, using teeth.

Thanks both.
Yes disability and swallowing issues and difficulty preparing food mean I want healthy veg based non sugar versions for when I need them, thanks for the judgement. Coeliac and living off GF ready meals and bread is not healthy or nice. My swallowing issues are not at the needing prescribed complain which is rank anyway. Already have a nutribullet. Also people living of NG feeds do not want to have the processed NHS prescribed crap and there are some companies now doing real blended foods for NG feeding.

I was looking at a way for being healthy or for ease during hospital admission (you’d be surprised at sometimes my family have to bring in food as they have to have a days notice). But thanks.

Anyone tried Huel or Solo?

So solo, Huel or Purition I should be looking at? Which one is easier to mix without a blender?

AmIAPenguin · 11/03/2020 23:42

Oh has solo been discontinued? What about ambronite?

INeedToGetHealthy · 11/03/2020 23:46

These came out quite well on £ for lb weight loss on one of the tv shows.

I have read that Huel is
Not that nice.

I have used Atkins shakes occasionally - they are quite nice and also filling.

JemimaTab · 12/03/2020 02:39

Purition are nice, but you need a blender. I mix them up with almond milk. They have loads of flavours and are not sickly sweet like many on the market. They’re low in carbs and sugar and are pretty healthy (made from wholefoods), they also have vegan versions.

mawbroon · 12/03/2020 03:02

Huel is like very thin porridge. It comes in several different flavours, none of which disguise the porridge taste 🤣

Sparklfairy · 12/03/2020 03:36

Huel Black (low carb version) is much nicer than huel imo. I have half and half vanilla and chocolate, but make it a bit thicker and eat it with a spoon like soup. Feels more satisfying like an actual meal rather than a drink iyswim. It does annoy me though that you have to pay £50 to find out if you like it or not... do they do samples?? I have no idea.

Sparklfairy · 12/03/2020 03:40

Oh and if you don't have a blender Huel isn't great. I bought a stick blender for £5.99 at currys though which works fine.
