Does anyone want to chat about houses?

I dream of a house and garden rather than a flat.

If I had all the space, I’d like to have a lounge for me and a lounge for guests šŸ˜‚

And I have a pipe dream of learning to play piano and having said piano in the house.

And cats. And a garden pond. And the garden would be part wildflower meadow.

In theory I’d like a fire. In practice, I don’t know if it’s a hassle.

Any other flat dwellers have such dreams?

I used to live in a Victorian terraced house and dreamt of a Victorian house with a loggia in the country. With a HUGE garden and a wooden greenhouse. In a lovely village with a pub. And a woodburner.

In reality, I now have a 1980s house with a fair sized garden in a lovely village with no pub. I'm very happy with it although I do depend a bit of time on Rightmove fantasising.

I got the greenhouse but aluminium and we've had the woodburner fitted, which I love so much I don't consider a hassle at all.

Eee, that sounds fabulous! I mean the house you have already!

Were 80s houses okay for soundproofing?

I live in a tiny house with a pocket sized garden. I dream of having 2 reception rooms and a downstairs toilet. I'd also love an spare bedroom/office and a decent sized garden. I would also like space for a tumble dryer so that I don't have damp clothes around the house all winter.

Kpo

Is it like when they make a one bed house that’s basically a flat on two floors? Nice to have a pocket garden though.

Thank you, it wasn’t my dream house but it’s turned out to be a lovely place to live now we’ve made some changes. It’s fine sound wise, better when we replaced the old double glazing.

I live in a 3 bed 1960's semi with a galley kitchen and a tiny box room that can't fit much in there as there is also a boxed off section to accommodate the stairs. It has a large conservatory that is mainly used for drying clothes and toy storage.

I dream of a house with 3 decent sized rooms, 2 bathrooms, a large kitchen diner that also has enough space for toys and a sofa, and a separate lounge that will be devoid of toys. A 4 bedroom house would be even better so I still have storage space.

I found a 3 bed that ticked all these boxes, had space for 2 cars to park on the drive, a back garden with grass (we have patio which isn't good with a toddler) and a utility room. Unfortunately it's out of my price range atm. I'll keep dreaming.

Oh and better soundproofing is a must.

AutumnRose1 · 01/03/2020 14:09

Figment, that sounds lovely!

Re double glazing

Mum is always cold and I notice there’s quite a draft coming in from her double glazed windows, at the frame. I’ve blocked it up now but was wondering, was it badly fitted or does a gap come with time? I think she had it done about 20 years ago.

I live alone btw, I just dream of a house for me! And I could be a lot more hospitable than in a small flat.

We're (hopefully!) about to buy our first ever home. I've been renting since I was 18, so nearly 20 years!

It isn't our dream home I guess, BUT I will be able to hang as many pictures and mirrors as I want, AND we will have a separate guest room and office, AND it won't all be magnolia walls!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed so hard that it all goes through!

AutumnRose1 · 01/03/2020 14:35

Sar, oh for a home office!

Fingers crossed for you it all goes smoothly
