Help me stay awake?

It feels wrong starting a thread with this title - I've spent most of the past 12 months wanting to stay asleep! I have tonsillitis, and I'm waiting for a call from out of hours. Unfortunately, they already rang at 11.30, but I had nodded off and my phone was on dnd. I've had to go through the whole 111 - referral to ooh - triage by nurse - wait for an appointment cycle again (my fault for falling asleep). If I fall asleep again I'll never get my antibiotics! Anyone there that is happy to chat to keep me awake? I have many daft things to say, just need someone to bounce off.

Cant return to me or anyone with squibsies (crossed fingers). Did 111 call at all?

Still waiting... I called them back at 1,when they said they'd have to reassess me, went through all the questions, ooh will call back within an hour, 2.30 was called by ooh nurse who asked all the same questions and told me that they will call back with an appointment. I know I'm not an emergency but ow 😔

🥳

Hope they phone soon op

I would be tempted to keep calling them but i am a massive pain in the arse!

Anyway i need an hours kip. Be back around 6 as can set your watch by my 3 year olds poo!

Queenofpi · 01/03/2020 04:50

How did cot replacement go?

Hopefully other people keep you up ....

Queenofpi · 01/03/2020 04:51

Cross post, well done on the infant replacement! Enjoy your sleep, and I hope my appointment arrives before your 3 year old's poo!

Maybe they've fallen asleep. Lol.

I remember having tonsillitis as a child and Mum bought me some lucozade. Thats the first time I realised the orange bottle was orange film wrapper.

(people under 50 may not understand!)

My son used to suffer a lot until they gave him a tonsillectomy. Presumably this is a one off and you just need a dose of antibiotics

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 01/03/2020 05:06

Oh yes, we’re currently playing the milk game - “i’ve had enough milk and am totally unconscious.” “I am totally wide awake and in need of more nourishment. Why do you starve me, mother?” Rinse and repeat...

Queenofpi · 01/03/2020 05:07

I had tonsillitis a lot in my teens and early twenties, it always hits me hard and fast, like a sledgehammer.
Something tells me I'll be worse than useless today... I was hoping to get antibiotics from the pharmacy before it closed at 11pm so that I'd feel better when I woke up. Baby will be up soon - eek!

Another fun game is the nap game - on your chest = dead to the world. Put in the cot = time to play!

My mum used to give me flat coke to settle my stomach if I was ill - sounds vile now but I used to love it! Do lucozade still do the plastic wrapped bottles? I heard that they'd come under fire for that because it makes recycling difficult.

I’m awake OP

DS is staying with PILs this weekend so I’m pumping, lest I wake up swimming in a puddle of my own boob juice Envy (not envy).

Queenofpi · 01/03/2020 05:19

Waking up to a soaked bed is not the most fun thing. It still happens to me sometimes on the nights when husband does night feeds (and that's with doing the bedtime feed).

OP posts:
Queenofpi · 01/03/2020 05:21

I remember the first time I had a night away from baby - she was 4 months old and I pumped and dumped 45 oz in 18 hours (no fridge). It certainly explained how she shot up the weight percentiles!

Only just saw this thread. My DD is celebrating her 1st birthday on Wednesday too! What did you do to celebrate?

AngeloMysterioso · 01/03/2020 05:27

DS is still 95% breastfed so DH has never done a night feed, but last time DS was away overnight I went to bed without pumping and was bloody drenched when I woke up! Learned from that experience- pumping at 5 a.m with 3 breast pads in each bra cup Grin

Queenofpi · 01/03/2020 05:33

@BuddingBaker we just had family round, cooked a meal and of course had cake. It's tempting to go all out, but as she still finds peekaboo hilarious, paying £££s for soft play hire didn't seem worth it!

OP posts:
Queenofpi · 01/03/2020 05:34

Remember those optimistic pre-baby days? "I'm sure one pack of breast pads will be enough..." 😂

Queenofpi · 01/03/2020 05:36

I have had the call! 🎉 Now I get to drive 25 minutes to the local community hospital... yay... But at the end of it there will be ANTIBIOTICS!!!

OP posts:
BuddingBaker · 01/03/2020 05:39

Very wise, we're doing very much the same but going out for a meal as I dont have enough room for all grandparents, aunts and uncles. Best of luck with your apointment

AngeloMysterioso · 01/03/2020 05:44

Woohoo! Tonsillitis is such a misery, I remember I had it really badly during my finals at uni and I couldn’t swallow without sticking my finger in my ear.

Queenofpi · 01/03/2020 06:42

Home with blessed antibiotics! Now to bed - thank you lovely mumsnetters for keeping me going!
