How likely is it that I'll get chicken food poisoning?

I was making a chicken egg marinade with my friend who is from India (In Europe with European eggs)

The chicken was put in the oven and he put the excess egg onto a pan and fried it like a flat omelette. I ate it to be polite, one quarter through I put it in the microwave for a minute and a half.

I didn't say anything (I should have) but I was and am very nervous about possibly getting food poisoning from it since it was marinating in chicken. Do you think it's likely or how risky is it?

It was obviously fried of course, like a pancake but still worried. Blush Shock

Not even a little bit.

MusicPlz · 29/02/2020 21:07

EstebanTheMagnificent thanks! Hoping everything will be ok. It was a bit 'East Meets West' as I basically burn everything for fear of overcooking

Chicken just needs to be hot to burn the salmonella doesn’t it? And I think it’s only some chickens that even HAVE salmonella in the first place, so you should be a-ok

Oh god, I couldn’t have eaten that. I’m sure it would be fine, but the idea of chicken marinade egg omelette... 🤢

MusicPlz · 29/02/2020 21:12

@DimplesMcGee I know... I really regret it

@TheGirlWhoLived Yeah I'm reading not all raw chicken has it... hoping I'm in that category. But also don't want to worry myself sick either

You will be fine. The pan would have reached a high enough temp to kill any bacteria from the chicken as long as the omelette was cooked through

Elouera · 29/02/2020 21:18

Sorry, I'm lost. What is a chicken egg marinade??? Confused

So he cooked the egg/marinate in a pan separately after marinating the chicken? Unless this was raw, AND the egg actually had salmonella, its fine!

I wouldnt eat a marinade that he had been on meat and ate it RAW, but this was cooked, so unsure what your issue or concern is? Nor the relevance of where you friend is from? Confused

Youhedge · 29/02/2020 21:22

It was cooked right? Confused

MusicPlz · 29/02/2020 21:22

@numberonecook I'm really hoping this...the omelette was very thin, like a pancake. Only worry is that chicken and eggs cook at different temperatutes

OP posts:
MusicPlz · 29/02/2020 21:23

@Youhedge Omelette was fried on the hob, yes. I'm worried though that it wasn't hot enough or cooked thoroughly enough to actually cook the chicken juices that it had been sitting in.

OP posts:
EstebanTheMagnificent · 29/02/2020 21:25

I think a very thin omelette in a hot pan would easily get to the 70°C needed to kill pretty much anything that could make you sick, including campylobacter and salmonella.

MusicPlz · 29/02/2020 21:27

@Elouera Basically chicken had loads of spices on it and then he had a scrambled egg sitting in it apparently to help it absorb the flavours.

Yep he cooked the egg in the pan after the chicken. I'm not too worried about the egg as European eggs are very safe thanks to different processing they have a drastically lower rate of salmonella compared to US eggs.

I am basically worried if the frying would be enough to cook the chicken juices. I mentioned where my friend is from as I have no cultural reference points for this dish or methods of cooking VS more Western styles of cooking where this wouldn't be done. (So in case someone was reading that was from an Asian culture who knew this dish)

MusicPlz · 29/02/2020 21:29

@EstebanTheMagnificent Yeah really hoping this, see I'm now worrying about it so hard to tell the difference.

OP posts:
MusicPlz · 29/02/2020 21:30

@Elouera Sorry to correct, a beaten egg in with the chicken and then taken out.

OP posts:
carlyclock · 29/02/2020 21:33

So an egg that touched chicken and was then fried to within an inch of its life?

You will be fine.

Youhedge · 29/02/2020 21:33

It’s fine, totally fine

MusicPlz · 29/02/2020 21:34

@Youhedge @carlyclock Thanks! Light a candle for me folks

How soon would I know anyways? It was been about an hour and a half

Mummoomoocow · 29/02/2020 21:38

... have you never fried chicken?

What's him being Indian got to do with anything? Confused it's hardly "foreign" cooking an omelette

KittenVsBox · 29/02/2020 21:40

You will be fine. DH often does this.

MusicPlz · 29/02/2020 21:40

@Mummoomoocow It's because I don't know the Indian cuisine which is incase someone here would know this recipe.

Making an omelette isn't foreign but I'd never seen it done with chicken. I'm not saying that with judgement it's just my lived experience.

OP posts:
MusicPlz · 29/02/2020 21:40

KittenVsBox Oh great! This same recipe?

@KittenVsBox Oh great! This same recipe?

OP posts:
KittenVsBox · 29/02/2020 21:47

Probably not. DH coats chicken in cornflour, then sits in a bowl of egg. It keeps the chicken moist when it cooks.
Excess egg, he will fry off to make a thin omelette to serve in strips on top (or make egg fried rice).
So, different cuisine, very similar techniques.
