Ideas please. Another class party. 5 year old girl. No idea what to get her. Around £5-£7 ISH. Thanks.

Is it normal to buy them something to wear?

What do you buy?

I usually buy tesco own brand games like their version of jenga or 'pop up puppy' they are usually between £5-8.
(DS in nursery, so going to 4th birthdays usually)

strawberrylipgloss · 29/02/2020 16:45

Usually something like a craft kit (my dd was Hama Beads mad) or a nice colouring book and pens. My dd was really into gel pens at that age

reluctantbrit · 29/02/2020 17:27

DD has been given T-Shirts like Sainsbury, H&M or Tesco but it can be a minefield with sizing unless you know the girl and always attaché the receipt so it can be changed if necessary. I liked it, it was often a motive like a cartoon character which I normally didn’t buy.

Some hair accessories like scrunchies, clips or some costume jewellery from Claire’s?

I personally stayed away from craft kits unless I knew exactly that the Birthday child loved doing it as Dd normally got showered under them when we did larger parties and we regifted several as we never managed to do them.

I have been getting one of the Melissa and Doug giant (A3) colouring pads and a pack of pencil crayons for all the recent bday parties (mostly turning 5)

Comes in at under a tenner from Amazon. And the pictures are very nice, good quality paper too.

Filled pencil case and colouring book
My little pony
jewellery kit
Novelty toiletries (frozen or similar) you can usually get a set in home bargains or B&M

nsav · 29/02/2020 18:10

How about a cute bath bomb or some nice bubble bath? I loved my 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th bday parties when I received really nice pamper things that were age appropriate :)

Cookiecrumble887 · 29/02/2020 18:15

Thank you done great ideas. She's built like a normal slim five year old so I think 5-6 would be her size.

I was also worried craft sets were abit predictable.

Colouring is a good one.

I did think about some cute hair accessories. We don't have a Claire's here. They have stuff online but the postage would make it a pricey option.

I might see if we can find her a t-shirt and some bobbles or clips for her hair. Thank you!

It's hard without knowing them whether they like Barbie or hatcimlas, frozen or whatever. Thanks!

I'm guesing you have a son then? Girls aren't another species - pick a game your little boy likes and buy her that!

Whathappenedtothelego · 29/02/2020 18:43

Best party present we had was a purse filled with chocolate coins.
Dd still uses the purse 5 years later.

Another really good one, if slightly unusual one was a pair of binoculars.

Cookiecrumble887 · 29/02/2020 19:03

I have one of each and my DD is five! Just looking for inspiration! It's hard when you don't know the child.

No need to be sarcastic

I always gave books. Age appropriate classics like The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Tiger that cam to Tea, Each Peach Pear Plum, The House at Pooh Corner, The Moomins, The Borrowers, that sort of thing...

ParkheadParadise · 29/02/2020 19:15

I'm shit at buying presents for dd's nursery friends.
I now stick £10 in a card and buy several packets of sweets to wrap.

ThatDreamSheep · 29/02/2020 19:24

I've been going for the 2 for £15 Argos toys (sometimes play doh). Use one for a gift and buy a spare for the cupboard for the next party.

Spied · 29/02/2020 19:28

I like the T-shirt/accessory idea.

CMMum88 · 29/02/2020 19:45

My dd would be over the moon with some fancy hair clips. I also love the purse with chocolate coins idea.

feeona123 · 29/02/2020 21:27

Good choice. My DD loves Claire's (I don't love the prices though)
