Do compression socks for Plantar Fasciitis work?

Sorry, not strictly style and beauty, but I don't know where else to ask this. I've had PF for a couple of years. I do the exercises and wear supportive footwear, but it's getting worse and I am contemplating PF compression socks. Do they work or do more harm? Any recommended brands? Thanks

On the style and beauty front I did buy a navy heattech car coat from Uniqglo and it's the best lightweight coat ever. Inspired by a thread about buying less, resisting impulse buys and prioritising purchases on a spreadsheet.

I didn’t know what this was until I read about it on here a few years ago. Used to get out of bed, put my feet on the floor and wow the pain!
Now I wear supports in all my shoes. Stopped wearing ballet flats and flip flops and gave up my heels.
It did go away eventually and hopefully I can keep it at bay by doing the exercises.

Taking up running helped me (couch to 5k to start with). I second a PP about calf stretching and I think that is what must have helped. I was stretching the calves really well to prevent shin splints and it had a second order effect of sorting out my feet.

I have had this for years. I finally found out that only shoes that are very flexible work for me. All my shoes with soles that don’t bend made my feet worse. I live in all different types of sketchers now.

Freeze a small bottle of water then roll it under your foot as a “ice pack”
You can also just use a tennis ball under your foot and roll over it to stretch the muscle/ exercise it,

I have fitflop everything. Boots, summer shoes, work shoes, everything. It’s made such a huge difference. Amazing.

lazylinguist · 29/02/2020 21:50

I didn't find Fitflop any good for me. I had it for 2 years. Two things worked: wearing Crocs around the house and doing calf/foot stretches every time I'd been for a run or a long walk or been on my feet for ages.

I’ve just done a course of shockwave therapy and thoroughly recommend it

Also losing weight although I know how hard that it with it

rolling your foot on a bottle or rolling pin helps, but I found an arch-support insole does the trick. You can get off-the-sheld ones in a sort or rubbery silicone in pharmacies or ebay, or with a cloth lining, or you can get then fitted by a foot-person. You can easily buy them according to shoe size, but there is also a shape. You might like to try cheap ones to find the shape that suits you before splashing out. I think physios and podiatrists sell them and presumably have some idea of how to fit. It will be different according to shoe. I'm told that some trainers are made with a moulded arch support but have never tried it. Some have a bouncy heel pad if you get "guardsman's heel" or "policeman's heel" as well.

Due to numerous injuries I get my orthotics made to a foot mould on the Elf.

I found sleeping on a thin mattress on the floor helped and steroid injections

I have gel heel supports in my trainers. I had them in all my shoes too, till I started wearing fitflops. I find they help, somehow!

The gel ones are far superior to simply padded ones/memory foam etc

Elouera · 01/03/2020 15:14

For those with fitflops, are they just a moulded flipflop? Does the slipper version also have a moulded sole? I'm thinking of getting some to wear indoors. Despite losing 10kg, my PF is getting worse, despite stretching, rolling foot etc.

PigletJohn · 01/03/2020 22:00

you can get gel or padded ones on ebay for about £3. They look very much like the Dr Scholl or Boots ones at five times the price.

Might be worth a punt to see if they help. You can stick them into your shoes with blu-tak to prevent them shifting.

If they suit you, you'll want a pair in all your shoes. After a while, I hope you'll find your feet get better.

KT Tape helps in my opinion as well as insoles
