Pure space photography studio scam

Hi everyone,
I have been scammed. I contacted this studio online and shortly after they called me saying that my daughter has been shortlisted. Suprise Suprise!!!! I've been asked to pay £50 upfront which then can be refunded if I decide not to purchase any pics. Also they claimed they can put me in touch with local modelling agencies.
We went there Fri a week ago. Photo session was ok although they said that it's going to be up to 4 hrs, it wasn't. The whole thing lasted about 90 min.
After session we were invited to the office where we could see the photos. Then the guy started saying you understand what's going on here! I was compelling taken by surprise. I thought I can picked up few pics and that's it but he didn't even mention this. Instead he showed me this packages, very pricey and started pushing for sales. He didn't give me chance to think about it. It was aggressive. I signed the agreement!!!
The wake up call came on the train when I started reviewing all what's happened and then checking comments online about that company. I felt very idiotic and I couldn't believe I have been that stupid!!!
Anyway if you come across Pure space photography studio from London try to avoid them!!!
Second thing what can I do to cancel this? I have read that I am not allow cooling period because that wasn't done at the door step or via Internet. Docs clearly states no cancellations but I wonder is there anything which can be done to undo that? Please Could you help fellow mums? Thanks a lot!!

I honestly don’t know why people can’t just say no in these situations. Fuck politeness and decline and leave Hmm

FrogsFrogs · 29/02/2020 16:03

Loads of people get scammed all the time around all sorts of different things.

Scammers are experienced and good at what they do.

The other day on the news there was something about a scam and people had lost 1000s, they had an expert on saying these people aren't stupid, the scammers are very good. It's appealing to think they're stupid as then you can think it'll never happen to you. And hopefully it won't!

VanCleefArpels · 29/02/2020 16:19

This isn’t a scam. It’s very persuasive salesmanship. The OP will get something in return for an agreed price. A scam is where money is given in return for nothing. Buyer’s remorse is a terrible thing.

That's horrible Dujoj and sadly I don;t think there's much you can do but for future reference the rule of thumb seems to be that any agency that charges up front is not a reputable one. The real agencies as i understand it do the portfolio then take commission when the model gets jobs not that anyone is ever going to get me to model anything except perhaps bras for odd shaped boobs!!

listsandbudgets · 29/02/2020 17:49

^^ odd sized... I'm two totally different cup sizes^^

whiplashy · 29/02/2020 19:39

Sounds similar to Venture who use pressure selling to lure you in and spend more than you can afford. Sadly not illegal but you could try trading standards. Doubt any modelling firms will condone it let alone give work out on the back of it. How old is your dd and how near London do you live?

Dujoj · 29/02/2020 21:07

Thank you LIZS
My daughter is 12 Yrs old and I live about 2 hrs by car from London. Why would you like to know that?

Most modelling castings/jobs are in London and often short notice, so living within an hour's travel max is an advantage. Also 12 is a slightly awkward age group. I fear you have been sold a pipe-dream, so hope she will not be disappointed.

TheSparklyPussycat · 29/02/2020 21:17

This type of scam - photos for potential modelling career - has been going on from at least the 1960s.

Pipandmum · 29/02/2020 21:23

Try contacting your credit card see if you can cancel. But you might lose the deposit.

MkDee · 30/05/2021 13:57

MkDee · 30/05/2021 13:58

Anyone please advise if there is a way out or else I guess mistake is made and have to suffer the consequences

Plex43 · 20/07/2021 19:49

I’ve done this but didn’t sign contract or pay for anything. Does anyone know if there have been issues with getting deposit back as they promised

Cat19lost · 25/07/2022 10:42

The same thing happened to me but I put 600 deposit and now I'm paying 200 monthly and I'm struggling at the moment. I don't know what to do either it's scary. I'm a student what do I do?

Recyclingbins · 25/07/2022 12:29

£200 a month? For how long? And how many photos did you get for that?!
