Reflux

I have a 7 week old who has reflux, they are on gaviscon. Over the last few nights they will not lay down in cot, and when do can see that something comes up (sometimes sick) and then they scream/cry, this is an cry which takes some soothing, this means that we get absolutely no sleep in a night. We have been back to the doctors to be told do not know what to do. Has anyone got any advice on how to support little one with sleep.
Thank you

Hey op, have you heard of the wedge pillows for reflux?

KTmond1234 · 28/02/2020 02:40

I was advised not to use them by the doctor.. we try feeding up wards and sitting up for periods of time after feeds but its like the little one in pain when lay her down at night

Why were you advised not to use them? Confused

I was going to say tilt the cot higher up at the head end.

I have my dc basket tilted at the head end. It doesn't help with the sickness but it does help them to settle better. Would love advice on how to stop or even reduce the sickness.

Have you tilted the cot for baby? I'd go back to the doctor as it sounds like the gaviscon isn't working

Good luck.

You need more medicine. Give infant paracetamol until you find a GP who will listen. We were ok with Zantac, but losec is a step up from that. They help with the acid levels, helping to reduce the hours of screaming.

We found reflux was a symptom of CMPA. I eliminated dairy from my diet and after about 2wks, we saw some improvement.

We also found tummy sleeping to help. You have to assess your own personal level of risk there, as it's not recommended. We used an angel monitor for peace of mind. Because even with Zantac, our kids still refluxed and choked when lying flat. Tummy sleeping was more like the recovery position, letting the vomit drain without disrupting their sleep.

Holding upright for 20-30mins after a feed also helped.

It's so exhausting, I'm sorry it's so hard. Flowers

TT anti colic bottles work for us. dd cant have Gaviscon and the other medication option was recalled in October so you can't get it anyway

DD1 had really bad silent reflux. In her case, holding her upright, tilting the cot etc. didn’t help. Even in between feeds we could hear acid come up - it would gurgle, she would swallow then whimper and then cry. She was breastfed so I also tried eliminating dairy and soy from my diet but again no improvement. What did work for us was ranitidine - very noticeable improvement within days. I’ve heard others say the same thing about omeprazole. It may be worth researching these to see if you think they would help your DC and then pushing for the doctor to prescribe it.
