Does anyone else weirdly affect electricals?

Honestly, just touching my computer or ipad seems to screw them up in some way. Just freezing up or refusing to load properly. I get my husband to touch or hold it and it works fine again. wtf.

Yes, I find the same thing! Used to happen all the time with computer/phone etc.. Our new car has the automatic locks where you just need the key near you, but it often won’t open for me! I’m sure I’m not doing anything different to my husband, but he comes along and opens it fine! So annoying! Angry

TreesSandSea · 27/02/2020 22:02

Yes me. Computers, phones, self service tills.

And sometimes when I touch DS he feels ‘fuzzy’ , like when you run your fingers down an aluminium Mac case.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 27/02/2020 22:03

I'd love to know what it's all about!

Yes! Usually just when I'm stressed though. I've had laptops, phones, my induction cooker, even digital stopwatches stop working, only to go back to normal when I use them again after I've calmed down. My husband has been with me when it's happened several times and finds it hilarious.

I think it's a real thing - after all, communication in the human nervous system is via electrical impulses, so surely the magnetic field created by these can have an effect on external electronics? Have always intended to do a bit of reading on the subject but haven't yet got around to it.

i am very staticky...always getting shocks from cars, trollies, the push chair when the children were small

I cannot tune in a radio as I affect the signal...if it is on tune and I walk by it will crackle, if it is crackling and I touch it the crackle goes....on occasion I disturb digital radios too which is supposed to be impossible....and if ds1 is in the kitchen with me we usually have to put the radio off as it goes weird.

I have quite a bit of bother with touch screens too!

SMaCM · 27/02/2020 22:16

Watched never worked for me, until my Apple Watch. My husband won't let me touch his watch.

Wallywobbles · 27/02/2020 22:17

Sisters induction hob doesn't like me, I shock everyone but mostly myself. My Welly Merck watch is the first I've had not to go toys up within a week (3 years + now). Mac aluminium case is grim too. It feels like it not earthed.

The next time you can (weather wise!) stand barefoot on grass to neutralize yourself and start wearing cotton clothes (well knickers anyway😂) . I used to get electric shocks off everything, make computers restart when I touched the keypad, phone battery drain as soon I touched it, half electrocuted the kids when I went to kiss them etc. I googled what to do, can’t remember what site it was on but the advice was as above. I still can be “charged” but not as often these days!

TheWashingFairyatemyhamster · 27/02/2020 22:24

I’m ok these days but back in the days of Walkman and Discman mine would refuse to work very shortly after purchase. Replacements were the same. No idea why so eventually gave up. Also had problems with cameras pre-digital that refuses to work.

I am still very staticky but no longer appear to cause things to stop working. It’s quite a novelty to be able to listen to music on the move!

Magicpaintbrush · 27/02/2020 22:24

Electric shocks off bloody everything - car, handles, car park ticket machines (so often am now scared to touch them) - must be my electrifying personality Grin

MonsteraCheeseplant · 27/02/2020 22:36

Hmm. I don't suffer so much with static. I wonder if there's a different thing going on there.

I very rarely get shocks but I only get a few weeks from a watch battery & I blow the bulbs in lamps all the time switching them on, infuriating!!

FluffyPinkSocks · 27/02/2020 22:42

Do you mean tellys go off when you walk past them kind of thing? I do get that but for me personally it’s definitely more to do with static now and a build up of electricity. Sometimes I spray water up into the ceiling of the rooms at home 🙈 ok ow I sound half daft bur TV it has helped. I’m almost certain I can hear the WiFi signal( if that’s even possible!).

minniemoll · 27/02/2020 22:51

I'm the opposite - I can make electricals work the person using them can't, especially computers. For some reason it really annoys people!

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 27/02/2020 23:47

I get static shocks off everything too. I open doors with metal handles with my sleeve wrapped around my hand Blush

ninja · 27/02/2020 23:51

Not just me then!

I can't wear and analogue watch, constantly get electric shocks and yes - the radio static thing (never thought that was me but it totally makes sense now)

Bargebill19 · 27/02/2020 23:59

Yes. Can’t use those self service tills in Tesco or b and q. Other stores are ok. I have broken four so far just by standing next to them whilst dp used them.

Yellredder · 28/02/2020 07:25

I used to be like this when younger but it seems to have worn off quite a bit. I used to know a woman who couldn't go into a petrol station as the pumps would stop working!
