Good Bathroom Scales

IfYoureNotIntoYoga · 27/02/2020 10:41

So after putting on a colossal 6 stone I'm going to be joining Slimming World online this Saturday.

I'm looking for some recommendations for reliable bathroom scales, ones that don't give a totally different reading every time I hop on them!

Possibly with 0.5lb increments.

So what do people recommend?

Thank you.

I've got some Weightwatchers digital ones . I've had them a little while but they're very good and measure quarter pounds as well as half pounds . They only work on hard floor though but that might be the case with all digital scales.

I got some from Amazon and they are very good, I wanted to track my muscle / water retention and with the app it fits the bill and they are very accurate ( I don't move them at all apart when hoovering which i think helps too)

I’m looking too. I bought some Which? Best Buy ones, which have been crap. Four weeks into a diet I realise they’re totally inaccurate. Am wondering about old-fashioned non-digital ones...

What you have to remember is that your body weight will fluctuate quite a bit, certainly a good few pounds, day to day for reasons that have nothing to do with how much excess fat is in your body (what you have eaten and drunk, menstrual cycle, other factors that affect hydration, what is going through your digestive system, changes in body composition if you start to do more weight bearing exercise).

So even the best scales will show these fluctuations. Home scales also won't be calibrated like SW ones are, so you will probably weigh a few pounds different on the different scales.

People think digital scales are more accurate, but this isn't necessarily true. They might be easier to read than a needle that flickers around and shows a different number at different angles, but that doesn't necessarily make things right.

The advice to weigh once a week on the same day at the same time is also unhelpful from an accuracy point of view because the above mentioned fluctuations don't follow a weekly cycle.

Best would be to weigh more often and get used to the ups and downs and remember that it is not possible to lose or gain 2/3/4 pounds of fat in a day or two, even if your weight has changed that much. There are apps that track these fluctuations and show trends over time, which is what you should be interested in, along with what your clothes feel like, rather than very short term ups and downs.

The Nokia smart scales that are WiFi connected and come with an app that automatically charts your weight, BMI, body fat etc each time. Very motivating to see your downwards trend! Pricey though

Thank you all,
I did wonder about non digital traditional scales but I'm not sure my eye sight is good enough to see the smaller increments on them whilst I'm on them.

I've had a Fitbit aria scale before however every time I stood on it it gave me a completely different reading and I'm talking standing on, hopping off, waiting 2 minutes and getting back on again so looking for some cheap-ish non fancy scales.

Think it's harder now to find such a simple scale as everything seems to have water monitors, body fat monitors and BMI calculators.

I'll have a look at that amazon link thank you and also check out the weight watchers one.

Thanks
