Cloudy gherkin liquid- off or fine?

I just bought 2 jars, in date, of a Polish brand of gherkin pickles. Its says it pasteurised, but they are both cloudy. I'm unsure if this is normal for Polish gherkins, or not, as my usual brand is just a clear vinegar. Any thoughts/advice?

Maybe fermented rather than in vinegar?

Not sure but I bought my normal Aldi ones the other week and they were cloudy.
I'm sure they tasted different so didn't eat them..
DH did and he's still alive. (This is the man who can eat raw bacon so that's not saying much Grin)

Are they definitely in vinegar or are they in brine? If brine, it does tend to look cloudier.

Its in a brine, with horseradish, dill and spices on the ingredients list. I can also see these additional herbs/spices within the jar. Just don't recall even having a cloudy jar or gherkins. They were from asda today.

I’m pretty sure that polish gherkins are fermented rather than pickled in vinegar, so that’s probably why they look different. They will taste different to what you’re used to too - very sour.

Thanks for the replies. I've just checked the asda website , and apparently they sell 2 types of gherkin cucumber pickles from the same brand- one in clear vinegar, and the other in a cloudy brine!!! I'd picked up the wrong one, so shall see what its like. thanks.

I've done that too.

Didn't make that mistake again Grin.
