Very exciting fabric conditioner question!

Sorry! I know it’s boring.

DS has bad skin. Very sensitive and eczema tied to his asthma.

I used fairy washing powder and it does the trick but the smell doesn’t last.
Many sister uses Bold washing stuff and fabric conditioner and the smell is unreal!

SIL uses Aerial (sp?) and the same in her house.

I can’t use these. Sad

Anyone know of any fabric conditioner that will keep a lovely smell but not ruin his skin?

Why do you want your clothes to smell? I find it so overwhelming when those around me smell of fabric conditioner. I would just be happy to find something that doesn’t irritate his skin...

OhCaptain · 26/02/2020 14:47

It doesn’t even have to be a perfume-y smell but just a clean, nice scent. They don’t smell of anything once they’re dried!

I think you need to get over the need for it to smell. Most of the highly scented ones will be an irritant. Natural is better! Fabric conditioner is unnecessary anyway.

Fairy do a fabric conditioner also but obviously there's still a potential for a reaction Some people say white vinegar works as a softener but I've not tried it

ExpletiveDelighted · 26/02/2020 15:02

Clothes aren't meant to smell of anything, fragrances are the main skin irritant in laundry products.

yorkshireteaspoonie · 26/02/2020 15:06

I've got sensitive/ allergic skin and had eczema since birth. My mother never used fabric conditioner growing up so as not to aggravate my skin... I remember cardboard clothes that smelled of nothing!!

Now as an adult I LOVE soft lovely smelling clothes I find fairy conditioner does leave a scent of clothes are dried outside. If I tumble them the scent is gone. Sometimes I use comfort 'fresh sky' which is lovely and the fragrance is stronger but doesn't irritate my skin.

I remember cardboard clothes that smelled of nothing!!

Yeah that’s what I mean! And because I prefer to air dry when I can they’re just a bit crap!

Comfort sensitive.

OhCaptain · 26/02/2020 15:23

I’ve always steered clear of comfort but I might try it, thanks!

Asda own sensitive is also pretty good for us, no skin reactions whilst using it. Have never been able to use fairy & love the smell of bold but it brings out dd1 in a rash.

OhCaptain · 29/02/2020 21:14

Sadly I’m in Ireland and don’t have an Asda! Sad

I’ve got sensitive skin and use the Ecover fabric softener. I find the smell is quite delicate and lasts for a decent amount of time. I really like it when I’ve left a load of laundry drying on the airer and return home from being out - the whole house smells like clean clothes Smile

OhCaptain · 29/02/2020 21:16

Oh great I’ll try that thanks.

Fairy or comfort white stuff are both nice

PeterPomegranate · 29/02/2020 21:19

You can get sensitive fanatic conditioners . I remember Waitrose does one. It doesn’t smell. We don’t use fabric conditioner at all.

PeterPomegranate · 29/02/2020 21:19

Fanatic = fabric ... (!)

LER83 · 29/02/2020 21:21

I use on by Splosh, and do an extra rinse at the end of the cycle. Clothes just have a very faint scent. I put air fresheners in the wardrobe/drawers instead.

Ginnesaisquoi · 29/02/2020 21:22

We use fairy gel and fairy conditioner. There’s not much of a scent, but I think everything smells clean and fresh.

TheGirlWhoLived · 29/02/2020 21:22

I use the Lenor beads... they don’t affect my EXTREMElY sensitive skin (sls, parabens, most creams, lush, cheap jewellery, fairy bio even all affects me badly - this doesn’t and makes my clothes smell ace

OhCaptain · 29/02/2020 21:25

Lots of suggestions thanks!

It’s just the fresh clean smell I’m after! Would like it to last until they’re worn at least!

I love the comfort intense ones, it is a compact bottle. The lavender one is lovely on bed sheets!

AwdBovril · 29/02/2020 21:53

DH, DD & I all have sensitive skin & prone to react to various cleaning chemicals, tree sap etc. I switched to a (cheap, own brand) non-bio powder detergent. Unscented. Much less itching for all of us.

If I want to smell nice I wear perfume, use lovely scented soap, etc. TBH I find the smell of most fabric softeners & scented detergents rather unpleasant.

FruityWidow · 29/02/2020 21:56

Not fabric softener but if you're a after the smell. Zoflora linen.

MachineBee · 04/03/2020 23:01

Or Dettol Laundry cleanser. Doesn’t smell of dettol - just smells clean.
