Having visible tattoos will almost certainly cause problems virtually anywhere.

BarbaraofSeville · 25/02/2020 15:59

Do you speak fluent Polish? Why Warsaw? What connections do you have there?

MrsSchadenfreude · 25/02/2020 16:49

Yes, it will be a problem. Poland is quite a conservative country, and becoming more so. I’ve spent a large chunk of my adult life there (and am there now!). The language is also really difficult to learn, unless you are already fluent in another Slav language.

ferna · 25/02/2020 18:24

@BarbaraofSeville No i dont , it doesnt mean im going to stay in Warsow i bought the trip to Warsow , i decided to go to Poland for different reasons such as lower unemployment rate , politics , the mentality of the polish people also , im about to be 30 on March , and i still didnt found my place in the world , i tried to live in barcelona / faro / Madeira and i still wasnt fullfilled...

But im fluent in english , spanish , i also know some italian and french , im going to learn polish. So you think they stereotype people easily by appearance? Cause i dont have criminal record and i will take that with me in case of an employer asks for it.

What are the face tattoos? I'd say you'll get a different reaction/success rate if you have a couple of small stars on your temple than if you have something like FUCK YOU on your forehead...

I have "barter" tattooed my left eye (its not that big) , i have "999" on upper my left eyebrow , the right cheek i have a rose and a dandellion , my tattoos are visible but its all very detailed and very well made , i spent a lot of time thinking to make a thoroughly work... Im a very educated person but i dont know what polish people think about portuguese ones also.

OP posts:
ferna · 25/02/2020 18:39

under my left eye @Bezalelle

OP posts:
ferna · 25/02/2020 18:42

@FrancisCrawford im fully tattooed on my neck and neck back , and 7 months ago i decided to extend the right side of my neck to my cheek and going by my right ear.

ferna · 25/02/2020 18:46

@FrancisCrawford Thanks for giving me an insight of the poles , wasnt expecting to read that many of poles eccentric !
Yes i can see polish language will be hard for me but i will have time to learn it when i got there cause here in Portugal theres no courses , at least in my city Porto.

That really does sound like a lot of tattoos. I dont know what work skills you have but sounds like you need something non customer facing or self employed. This would probably be a problem in most countries.

Kazziek · 25/02/2020 18:53

What sort of employment will you be looking for? I know in the UK visible tattoos would rule you out of the majority of office work, I think that would be fairly standard anywhere

ferna · 25/02/2020 18:58

@RaininSummer I have a secondary degree (12years of studies) , my curriculum is quiet decent , i worked as a retail seller in a clothing shop in a shopping , i also worked in a industry of paints (very well known portuguese company) , but since 2017 that only temporary work agencies are putting people in work but are only temporary contracts of 1 week or 2 week or even 1 month , you cant have a sustainable life to pay rent here, the rents increased here also a lot.

ferna · 25/02/2020 18:59

@Kazziek Im looking for anything to be honest , i cant be very exigent by choosing a job to start. I will start in a flatshare while looking for a job.

Hi ferna,

We've edited the title of your thread so it now says 'Moving to Warsaw in April' rather than 'Going to Warsaw' so people will have more of an idea what it's about. We've also moved it over to our Chat topic.

Best of luck for the move. Smile

Surely you must have known that facial tattoos make it harder to fine employment? Struggling to understand why anyone would do that to themselves.

Warsawa31 · 25/02/2020 19:32

Hi, my wife is polish and from Warsaw which in polish is - Warszawa (hence my user name lol) we have family there and visit often.

Warsaw is a modern city, it’s not liberal in the western sense, but at the same time very friendly. although I must admit I have never seen a person with face tattoos there.

It’s no different to anywhere else really, the only places in the world I can think of with face tattoos as the norm would be Polynesia, including Maroi people in NZ.

ferna · 25/02/2020 19:37

@Seventyone72seventy3 Yes i understand your point of view.

OP posts:
ferna · 25/02/2020 19:38

@Warsawa31 Its not like i have my full face tattooed , but yes i know what you mean. I hope i have some good luck. Thanks

If Poland doesn't work out, have a go at New Zealand. Facial tattoos are totally normal, and we are very fucking non-judgemental and lovely if we say so ourselves.

I know a friend of a friend, a polish lady, married to a Portuguese guy, they live in Porto and you are right, there isn't much in a way of Polish community there but she prefers Portugal.

I think u will find it tricky in Poland, even food is very different, also not easy to pick up language quickly and Poles might be eccentric at times, but mostly quite traditional.

CassidyStone · 26/02/2020 08:52

Maybe cover your tattoos with camouflage cream for work?
