Or perhaps it more a time
Of rapid change

Like With kids they change a lot from birth to say 4/5

The. It kinda settles down for quite a while

Then it’s like time kinda speeds up when they hit 12/13/14

And it’s enessan similar worh adults 20/30/40 all seem fairly steady
But at some point time seems to speed up again to a time
Of rapid change

And the difference between 40-50 seems big and then 50-60
60-70

It’s like the doors back on the gas somehow ?!

Anyone know what I’m blabbering on about !!

Too right it does! We had this conversation in reception this morning! It will soon be March for Goodness sake!

Meme05 · 25/02/2020 15:15

Totally agree...life is like a loo roll, finishes quicker as you near the end.

RAOK · 25/02/2020 15:19

I once heard it’s because a year in an adult’s life is a much smaller percentage than a year in a child’s life.

Halfcharged · 25/02/2020 15:21

I find time really strange. My childhood feels far longer than my adult life (I’m 40). I’ve been in my current job for 15 years and it’s flown by, my childhood from birth to 15 feels infinitely longer.

7salmonswimming · 25/02/2020 15:22

No doubt about it.

For me it’s the kids. They grow up so fast and oblige me to keep pace. I’m old and I’m ageing too fast.

Lweji · 25/02/2020 15:23

No when you're living it.
Yes when you look back.
If that makes sense.

ParkheadParadise · 25/02/2020 15:24

Yes
I've only brought dd2 home from hospital(in my head)
She starts school in August.

FlowerArranger · 25/02/2020 15:26

life is like a loo roll, finishes quicker as you near the end

That's a good one - must remember this Smile

And so, so true. The last 10 years - where have they gone?

Savour it while you've got it!

Lllot5 · 25/02/2020 15:28

So if you’re 40 then 10 years is a quarter of your life.
However if you’re 20 it’s half.
So at forty it feels like it’s going quicker.

ACupOfCoffee · 25/02/2020 15:30

Definitely feels that time goes faster the older you get.

I also sometimes ponder on the developmental leap between the ages of 10-20. I know its obvious but an individual goes from being fairly dependent on their caregivers to quite possibly having moved out of the family home/travelled independently/married etc. In just a decade. The last decade has flown by for me! Its almost more mind blowing than a baby turning into a toddler/child.

Iambloodystarving · 25/02/2020 15:34

Absobloodylutely!!
My perception of time has changed completely. Years were very long when younger - Christmas never came for example or there was always a decent amount of time between birthdays! However the days FLEW. Now? The days are quite long but the years? Christmas now seems to come round every few months!

Morgan12 · 25/02/2020 15:35

Yes definitely.

I was thinking the other day about how much my life changed from aged 15 to 20. It felt so long!

But 20 to 30 went ridiculously fast.

Libertylee · 25/02/2020 15:39

Apparently it’s because as children, we are constantly taking in information and learning new skills. As an adult, much of that is mastered and we live somewhat on “auto pilot”

purpleboy · 25/02/2020 15:53

I've heard that too libertylee
As adults we don't stretch our brain enough, we don't try new thing or go outside of our comfort zone,

igotdemons · 25/02/2020 16:34

Definitely! It seems every year I get older, the time seems to speed up some more! Only seems 5 minutes ago I was a teenager and now I’m almost 40 FFS! 😱 It just doesn’t seem real.

Topseyt · 25/02/2020 16:45

Time definitely goes by faster the older you get. It's scary sometimes.

My three DDs are now aged 25, 21 and almost 18. How the bloody hell did that happen!!?? Surely they were babies just a couple of years ago!!

We were discussing some past events at work earlier today and something I thought had happened just a year or two ago turned out to have been more than 5 years ago.

I'm 53 now and my "children" are virtually grown up. DD3 is doing A Levels this year so this is her last half term as a schoolgirl. Soon I will have no school age children left. Shock

Again, how the hell did that happen? Shock

crosstalk · 25/02/2020 17:03

As a PP has said it's a matter of proportion. Ten years is a sixth of my life, half of my daughter's. Every year to me means half of what it does to my daughter IYSWIM.

Likethebattle · 25/02/2020 21:55

It’s speeding past. I suppose when you are 4 years old a year is a quarter of your life but when you are 40 it’s 1/40 of your life.

IntermittentParps · 25/02/2020 22:01

something I thought had happened just a year or two ago turned out to have been more than 5 years ago.
God, this happens to me ALL THE TIME. I think everything was 'a couple of years ago' and then it turns out to have been five, or seven, or ten years ago...

Just this year (I'm 45) I'm particularly feeling like the weeks are going by in a flash. Maybe because I have a new-ish routine of nights out and classes that I do on particular nights, but every Wednesday night after my class I think 'God, that's that done again already' and every Friday on my way to my meet-up I can't believe it's that time AGAIN...
It is all really speeding up the older I get.
