How to get rid of SKY?

I'm thinking to get rid of SKY but I get my normal channels via there. I have an older tv without the smart options. How would I then be able to get these normal tv channels without SKY?

if you stop your subscription they won't take the dish or the box, so it will act as a 'freesat' box and you'll still get the free channels. No recording though.

Unless it's sky q and then they will want it all back... if that happens you'll need a free sat box or use an aerial.

Flummingbird · 25/02/2020 14:54

Not the dish sorry but the box and broadband router.

mencken · 25/02/2020 17:18

if that is the case, either go back to the aerial or get a freesat box. BTW there is only one freesat box available in the UK that records and it is really, really shit. That's Humax for you but there is no choice.

Mil is going to be getting rid of sky and getting virgin. Sky has become so expensive and she's paying box insurance and dish insurance on top

It's worth phoning Sky and negotiating a better deal. I've done this each year for the past couple of years and am now paying around half price for my sky package.
I find being super nice rather than angry/sarky works wonders with the call centre staff.

i cancelled it, got a now tv box but realised I needed a new ariel to get the normal channels so that's 170 pounds! However my SKY was 25 a month so will pay for itself soon enough.

We've got a Humax box that's coming up 8 years old, does it's job no problem for us. It was £200 well spent

ratspeaker · 25/02/2020 20:41

We discovered we could get freeview via these aerials
www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00UA9BLSG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8
Just plugged it in an tuned in.

The sky box should still act as freesat box.

Now tv works via your internet so you will still need broadband

the Sky box was much better than the humax one - the humax is pig slow to start and respond, crashes quite often and the user interface has been designed by an art student. To change channel you have to push the button three times; select, watch live and then watch again just to be sure. It is also really noisy - we are on our second one and it is still grinding away. And the recording indicator is a vague purple and on the UNDERNEATH of the box - how stupid is that?

The Sky box was much better but at £22 a month I suppose you get what you pay for. As I said, there is no other choice. bit shit really.
