Bike locks removed at college bike shed by janitor over half term...

My DS got to college on his £200 bike today to find the quite new £20 D bike lock he'd left there, in the shed, as always, along with others' bike locks- gone.

So he had to leave a £200 bike propped up there all day in an area where the local FB page's top 5 complaints is stolen bikes.

There was no mass email out to students telling them to remove bike locks.

Do we have a case for the replacement cost of the lock?

You may not be aware that in the struggling world of non- sixth form FE colleges, attracting good students then getting them into the best unis for their subject, then being able to promote that is a bit of a Big Deal.
To be fair the way non-sixth form FE colleges make more money is by persuading borderline students that they should do a 1 year level 2 course before progressing to a 2 year level 3 course/only offering that set up to students who could get 5s at GCSE but say they'll take them on 4s if they do the additional year as that secures them 3 years of funding instead of 2. We've seen quite a few interesting offers given to some y11 students that were all about the college maximising funding rather than acting in the child's interests.

You seem to be placing a disproportionate weight on your son being in a prospectus. Nobody is going to look at a college and select that college because one student got onto a good university course.

Why the jealous spite about the OP’s son’s success?

OldEvilOwl · 26/02/2020 09:39

YANBU, why the hell would they do that?

TrickyD
There's no jealous spite about her son doing well. Confused
It was more the flouncing "well he will refuse to be in their prospectus to pay them back" response combined with then telling everyone that him being in the prospectus is a massive deal that's got a few eye rolls.

He's done well and that's great, but the college enrollment isn't hinging on one student being in the prospectus and acting like her son is a crucial part of recruitment is quite silly.

TrickyD · 26/02/2020 11:41

Oh, OK, LolaSmiles Hmm

LolaSmiles · 26/02/2020 11:48

Why the Hmm?

Put it this way, our 6th form puts our students in our prospectus. We also put our results in, course details, pastoral care, enrichment opportunities, cohort destinations and more. It's absolutely fabulous to see all the students do well each year. Only a heartless arsehole would have an issue with children acheiving their potential.
But, one student not featuring in the prospectus wouldn't make or break our prospectus or ruin our recruitment. It just wouldn't.

That isn't jealousy. It's a fact of life.

The eye rolls on here aren't over OP's son having a good offer, they're at the OP's attitude of "well he can refuse to be in their prospectus to teach them and actually it's a massive deal for them if my child withdraws from it".
