I'm going to take DD (15 years old) to the doctors at the earliest opportunity but while I wait for an appointment has anyone experienced or known of anyone with these symptoms before;

  • fine all day, eating and drinking normally then suddenly feeling sick during or after evening meal
  • goes ghostly pale when the sickness feeling starts
  • uncontrollable shivering that goes from her head to her feet this calms down then the sick feeling comes back and the shaking starts again
  • sudden sleepiness had to put her to bed at 8.30pm last night as she was so tired
  • doesn't want to eat or drink usually has a very good appetite and drinks 2 litres of fluid a day
  • no new food or drinks introduced due to disability she doesn't tolerate new textures or sensations well

Temperature normal, urine and bowel all normal (for her) Does have several underlying disabilities but not any that would explain this. I'm thinking virus but why not all the time? I'm at work so will reply later on if anyone replies.

have you thought about phoning 111 if you're in the UK?

Effinell · 24/02/2020 20:35

Knowing my luck they would send an ambulance I'm convinced there is a flag next to her name to tell them to send one due to complex needs even if it's a cold HmmGrin

I'd ring 111 for advice also

Sounds like a virus (eg norovirus) or food poisoning. Was this one evening or more than one? The way you wrote it I couldn't tell.

Effinell · 24/02/2020 20:44

Oh sorry it was last night and tonight

Could she have developed some sort of anxiety over eating in the evening? Panic attacks? Is the routine different to the rest of the day? Was she recently Ill or chocked whilst eating recently.

I have a SIL who suffers from anxiety and panic attacks. Your post reminded me of her. Eating us a huge trigger. She is fine in her own home, but struggles to eat in public or in front of people that she doesn’t know very well.

Partly stems from her becoming unwell at school and vomiting in the dinner hall, although there is a bit more to it than that.

diabetes?

yoikes · 24/02/2020 22:13

Any pain?
Abdominal migraine?

Try looking up gastric dumping syndrome or biliary dumping syndrome.

Overseasmom100 · 24/02/2020 22:58

Aneamic perhaps

Effinell · 25/02/2020 06:33

Anxiety is a possibility. We have a lot going on at the minute and her usual routine (which is rigid) has been upset a bit in the last 8 or 9 days.

I looked up diabetes symptoms because I thought maybe her blood sugar was too high or low the symptoms didn't really match though.

No pain although she has such an extremely high pain threshold she has to be in agony to notice so maybe it is niggling away at her.

Looked up both dumping syndromes they could be a possibility as well.

Not anaemic - she has blood tests every few months.
