Have you had a male HCP refuse to do a check on you?

Reading with interest the thread on whether you have always had a female do a smear test - I don't want to hijack with my point, because I think it's a really interesting point in light of recent ideology....

But, I have had two male doctors refuse to examine me when I asked about pains in my breasts and tell me I need to see a female doctor. Has this happened to anyone else?

By the way I have always had female nurses do smears and always seen female doctors about any issue; not necessarily on purpose. It's always hideous and would be hideous whether it was male or female, I reckon, and my opinion always was that they are medical professionals, used to seeing all sorts of bodies with all sorts of lumps, bumps, rashes and infections -

I made a routine appointment to ask about breast pain, just took the first doctor offered to me. When I told him what the issue was he said I would need to see a female doctor about that.....

It was obviously on my notes because at my next appointment, about something completely different with another male doctor, he checked first that I shouldn't be seeing a female instead.

So in light of all this gender politics, and ladies who say they don't care if they see a male HCP, I just don't understand.....??!!

Never!

The first time I needed an exam the lead GP insisted on doing it himself there and then - baring in mind there were also another 2 junior doctors in the room who were sitting in and taking notes for their training. I felt uncomfortable and asked for a female nurse. The GP then seemed quite put out because I didn’t give the juniors a learning opportunity, and there was waiting around as he had to hear back from the nurse etc so I wasted his precious time. He couldn’t care less about my comfort and dignity.

Since then I’ve had exams by male gynaecologists before, typically with a female nurse/chaperone. Never an issue.

No never been refused. Asked if I wanted a female chaperone but I always declined.

Huh? I'd feel a bit offended if they did.

I had to have an intimate exam last week and they said they'd put me down for a female, I said I couldn't care less who it is as I trust they're all professional. Ended up with a woman and still got offered a chaperone.

I wonder what would happen if it was a female GP examining a man? DH had a female GP check his testicle when he had discomfort, he was offered a chaperone too and was given the option when booking to have a male GP.

Gosh how times have changed. I had mastitis when ds was a tiny baby and the male GP just said "hop on the couch, get your bosoms out and I'll have a look".

Bit patronising but not a problem.

I much prefer seeing a male gynae for womens things and since the nurse drew blood and laughed at my retroverted cervix in about 95 I wouldn't let a nurse near me with a speculum ever again.

I've had a male doctor refuse to give me the depot jab! It's so high up it's more in your back than your ass. I had to come back and see a female doctor.
I had been on it about 18 months at this point so totally routine
