Time off after being sick

If you child had an activity 41 hours after being sick (however she was absolutely fine hours after being sick) would you send them? I thought this was ok being almost 48 hours and her being absolutely fine.

Also how do you get sick smell out of a mattress??

It's 48 hours for a reason so no you shouldn't send her. Kids bounce back but it doesn't mean they aren't spreading a bug around.

Maybe bicarbonate of soda powder over the mattress and hoover it off the next day.

My dd once vommed an entire bag of fizzy sweets that she pinched and ate in secret. She was back to herself in minutes (even if a bit guilty) leaving me to sort out the very colourful mess.

I categorically knew she wasn't sick so would have sent her.

In your case op I would not have sent her - you said it took hours to get back to normal

Well I said hours because she was sick in the night! So she was fine when she woke up!

After a very recent bug both of mine went back to school/nursery after over 48 hiurs clear then started vomiting again the next night. This happened a further twice with DS who ended up having it on and off for almost 3 weeks.

So while I still adhere to the 48 hour rule it is by no means 100% effective.

DC1 was sick about 50 hours apart last week with nothing in between. Thankfully it was half term and the timings meant it was overnight anyway but I wouldn’t send in until it had been at least 48 hours.

Have you tried bicarbonate or soda or else see if a carpet cleaner does the job (you can hire them if you don’t have one)?

Please try and remember that there are many kids and people with immunodeficiencies where picking up these bugs can make them really poorly. You can't accommodate for everyone but it does help to try and stick to these 48 hour rule.. I just wish more adults would stick to it at work..
