Stress and menopause

I am 54 ,and perimenopausal.
I have a senior role at work, lots of stress and responsibility.

I have always thrived on it.

I seem to be struggling a lot with work recently ,feel as if things are getting on top of me. But essentially the job is not any harder than it ever has been

Was a bit fed up last night, Sunday night blues.

Had a terrible night, tossing and turning, thinking about problems at work ,and totally catastrophising .

Had a few bad dreams, all work related.

Anyone got any thoughts about what's going ion /what I can do

Normally I would be up and off to work to start getting things done, but I just want to run away

I had almost identical effects and actually gave up my job to do something completely different. However, I hated it beforehand 🙂.
Are you on HRT? This was life changing for me as I was teaching a point where I was losing the ability to think - and lack of sleep was spiralling and getting me panicky.
Also in the short term: cut out caffeine and alcohol. If you wake up either listen to a podcast that will divert your mind completely, or get up, have a cup of tea, listen to music or read for half an hour, then when your mind is re-set go back to bed. For me it breaks the cycle of panicky night thoughts.
Best of luck. It’s torture but will pass.

This is me for the last 12 months or so

Huge insomnia, catastrophising, ruminating, out of character forgetfulness, feeling overwhelmed

I am 54

53 here, currently off work with a stress related issue. Only taken 4 days in 13 years sick until now. Had more than that this month. Memory shocking. Disturbed sleep. Irritable. This getting older is shite.

I've been there.
It's worth seriously considering HRT.

When I started the menopause I used Higher Nature Mexican wild yam cream as I don`t take medication of any sort. It stopped all the symptoms everyone mentioned but I also take magnesium and I noticed a huge change in my overall attitude. I got the yam cream from Bodykind online. Also you could try changing your diet, cutting out sugary food/drinks/ booze /coffee and eat more fresh fruit and veg.

There is a good website called menopause matters which has a high traffic chat forum on menopause

I have found my people! I was starting to think i was going mad, and have only just realised it is probably the perimenopause. I just booked a doctors appointment today after talking to a colleague who is the same age and going through similar.

HRT
HRT
HRT
Cutting out alcohol and caffeine may slightly uplift you but your hormones will win overall

I tried all the lifestyle changes and obviously they improved matters to some extent but HRT brought back my mojo fully and I can now deal with standard stresses and retrieve my words Grin
