What do you still do as an adult that you did as a child?

I was thinking this today as I drank my drink in the kitchen. I was a clumsy child, forever spilling stuff, so i was only allowed to drink drinks in the kitchen. I’ve never drunk tea or coffee, so when I’m thirsty I go in the kitchen and get a glass of water or squash and just drink it down. I very rarely have a drink in any other room. Weird.

Oh and

Check the contents of my parents fridge when I go round there

YappityYapYap · 23/02/2020 23:23

Get the urge to hide when I hear someone coming up the stairs.

Pull leaves off any bush I walk past, I can't help it.

Franklymydearidontgiveadam · 23/02/2020 23:27

Aged 33...stilla thumb sucker.

Sometimes I run up the stairs using my hands too

Today I watched an omnibus of sabrina the teenage witch.

thatonesmine · 23/02/2020 23:28

Leave my crusts.

TeetotalKoala · 23/02/2020 23:33

@rosieposies I do something similar! I rub my lower legs together. My DH calls it 'that weird cricket thing you do'

I lift my legs up so that the bottom of the duvet goes under my feet, making a nice nest. DH has to de-cocoon me when he comes to bed.
Bite my nails
Pick my nose Blush
Another who can't walk past a cat in the street without trying to make friends.
Find farts funny. Particularly my own noisy ones. I'm less fond of DH and the DCs silent stinky ones.

YY to checking the contents of parents fridge (and goodies cupboard). My dad lives 4 hours away, so if we go there, we stay. They always stock the fridge and cupboard so well for us. I'm married with two kids and pushing 40. But there I get to be the child for a bit. Cos they have nice things that we don't buy because DH and I have no self control

AmazingGreats · 23/02/2020 23:34

I eat like a child in too many ways. I think I've got worse as I get older. I like things that come in novelty shapes, tiny sizes, bright colours etc. I also eat a lot of condiments. I say it's for the kids, but I'll be eating turkey dinosaurs and Alphabetti Spaghetti long after they've left home.

I also realised I basically dress like I did as a child. Mostly my clothes are fairly functional (jeans and a T-shirt, trainers, parka) only with some childish things thrown in. I like patterns and lots of colour. I love novelty items and dressing up. I own more than one onesie.

I try and find the novelty and humour in every day things. I'm curious about the world and love learning. My kids help remind me of that side of my too, chasing rainbows, jumping in puddles, running away from bears (there are no bears), not stepping on the cracks, dancing without moving various body parts or only dancing with them (dancing with your shoulders can be quite entertaining).

Sometimes I do those things when I'm on my own too. Like, I'll see if I can wash all the dishes standing on one leg or see if I can beat google maps to my destination. When I wait for the bus I see how far I can count in odd numbers or primes. Or see how many times I can spin around before I'm too dizzy. Sometimes when I'm pushing a pram or trolley I let go for a moment and think "no hands!" I may have actually said that out loud.

I make up lots of nonsense stories and songs and day dream constantly. I still live in a fantasy world most of the time and I am still a compulsive reader. I still sometimes stay up until the early hours reading a page turner, but there's nobody to nag me now.

I do colouring in and have my own collection of fidget toys like fidget spinners and spinning tops, a kalaedoscope, a rubix cube, slime, Lego and nano blocks, a yo-yo, and what is basically a tamagotchi. I still like playing board games and games on devices. I still get a bit obsessed when I like a certain TV programme or book series.

I am an adult honest! I'm really boring in lots of ways, but I just can't help myself being a bit silly and playful too.

Smidge001 · 23/02/2020 23:44

@Furrybootsyecomfy how else can forty be pronounced?

Weloveoptimus · 23/02/2020 23:44

I want to have a go at shoulder dancing now!
AmazingGreats you sound lovely.

AgeLikeWine · 23/02/2020 23:46

Support my football team. I started going to our old ground with my dad when I was very young, then I went with my mates when I was a teenager, and now I go with DP to our new(ish) ground.

I’m still waiting for us to win the league Sad.

AmazingGreats · 23/02/2020 23:47

@Weloveoptimus

Thanks. I think most people would describe me as "eccentric" but I'm ok with that.

TheDuchessofDukeStreet · 23/02/2020 23:53

Eat fish fingers and chips followed by jelly and ice cream. Still have my teddy and keep him close. Still read books such as Milly Molly Mandy with enjoyment. Have Matey bubble baths.

Furrybootsyecomfy · 24/02/2020 00:01

@Smidge001
How it’s written I suppose-
for-ty
Not sure how else to put it, but I’m told the way I say it is weird and has been since I was wee Grin.

sadforthekoalas · 24/02/2020 00:16

Wear jeans and trainers as much as I can possibly get away with.

Yell downstairs to beg my husband to bring me up a glass of water when he comes up to bed - I used to yell to ask my dad for this and the softie always used to bring me one!

Lozz22 · 24/02/2020 00:16

Run up the stair on all fours
Still prefer a kiddies dinner ie turkey dinosaurs, potato waffles and spaghetti
Like to make words with alpha bites and alphabet spaghetti
Cry or get grumpy when I'm tired
Sleep under the duvet and make sure my ears and nose aren't exposed because that way the monsters can't get me.
Have to eat round my plate. Try some of everything first and work round from least favourite to favourite. Also don't really like foods touching each other and have to eat them separately. Unless it's chips and spaghetti or chips and coleslaw.
Still like a bit of light coming in the bedroom so I'm not totally in the dark
Still cocoon myself in my duvet when I'm frightened worried or scared. My DP did this when I had my 4th miscarriage and had a huge panic attack. He cocooned me in my duvet and just knelt in front of me stroking my hair and face until I'd calmed down

Bakedpotatoandgin · 24/02/2020 00:24

I sleep with two teddies. I talk to inanimate objects. I play long involved games in my head to get to sleep at night. I like "kids' tights" ie the thick woolly ones better than proper grown up tights. I skip and sing if I'm happy (yes even in public!)

PenguinsOnParade · 24/02/2020 00:32

DH had never lived in a house with stairs until we moved last year. I taught him the joy of bumping down the stairs on your bum. Grin

I also raid my parents fridge and run up the stairs on all fours.

Sometimes when I'm home alone I walk around the house pretending I'm a dinosaur, walking on tip-toes and holding my arms up high. Blush

Stompythedinosaur · 24/02/2020 01:22

I go up stairs on all fours if I don't think anyone is looking.

I often pretend I am an undercover agent when doing boring things at work.

Cakewineorgin · 24/02/2020 01:36

@Hadenoughofitall441 beans on toast taste so much better this way. DH had never seen it this way before and thinks I’m weird. Strangely I love how the toast goes properly soggy and I generally hate soggy food or different foods touching. In fact I don’t even like sauce on pasta or curry on rice, they always have to be on the side. 🤷‍♀️

Ozgirl75 · 24/02/2020 03:12

I eat separateable food like Kit Kat’s, munchmallows etc by eating off the chocolate first and then nibbling the water/biscuit etc. Also eat carrots outside first leaving the stick in the middle.

Have lucozade when I’m ill.

Pull seeds off grass and plants and scatter them if I’m on a walk.

Say “well duh” when something is obvious and chinny reckon when I don’t believe something.

Ozgirl75 · 24/02/2020 03:13

Water = wafer

Pollyputthepizzaon · 24/02/2020 03:39

Suck my thumb

tobee · 24/02/2020 04:47

Still get a thrill eating chocolate biscuits and crisps at the same time - party buffet food!

tobee · 24/02/2020 04:48

I miss sucking my thumb. It was the best thing ever!

Lou670 · 25/02/2020 06:49

With the thumb sucking I do it mindlessly and more so when I am tired or upset. I had to have one of my dogs put to sleep last month and I must have been biting my thumb as well as sucking it as I noticed I had made it bleed and not even realised.

When I was in hospital for sometime in 2018. I had left my bed and in the meantime the bed was changed and my comforter went missing! Devastation was not the word as it had all my smells on it. Sad
