I'm hopefully getting rid of my Hyundai i20 later this year and I've started thinking about what I want instead. I haven't driven anything yet so I'm purely going on looks and I've got the short list down to these:

Renault Clio RS Line
Kia Picanto GT Line S
Nissan Micra Tekna
Ford Fiesta Titanium X

Has anyone got one of these (not necessarily the same spec) and what do you think of it? I don't have children so no need to worry about car seats, buggies etc and DH has his own car but we tend to alternate when we go out or on holiday. I want something that looks good, is fairly cheap to run and has a reasonable warranty. Oh and it can't be electric or plug in hybrid.

Thanks in advance.

The ride is great, I live in a village so plenty of bumps for me to experience.

MPG wise, I'm achieving 45-50mpg. A tank costs around £40 and gives 400 miles. This all depends on your driving though!

You can comfortably get 4 adults in the car. I can fit my baby in the back with an adult in the front.

I chose the N-Sport over the Tekna for the looks as it has suede/leather etc. I'm also mid twenties so it's a bit more 'cool' Grin

I love my Renault Clio, I've had it over 5 years, it's been 100% reliable (and I do a lot of motorway driving), economical and lovely to drive. I am going to replace it this year, almost certainly with another, newer Clio.

While I had the money for my new car, I did ask if I could pay on a credit card (also thinking air miles!). I don't know about other dealerships but Kia said no.

CormoranStrike · 24/02/2020 08:53

The new higher spec micras are lovely.
If I was going for a fiesta - and millions do - I would have the Vignale as I thibk it is extra special.
Don’t much rate the built quality on a Clio, though it has been years since I was in one.
I know nothing much of the Picanto, other than one has never stood out to me.

Growingboys · 24/02/2020 08:58

Kias are amazing and come with a seven year guarantee if buying new - we have a bigger one and love it, despite having had loads of much more expensive cars (Audis mostly, and Volvos and a Saab) before. Honestly they are great.

Fords also good. I would choose between those two for quality.

Growingboys · 24/02/2020 09:00

Also I had a Renault once and NEVER again. Shocking quality.

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 24/02/2020 09:07

I don't think you can pay for a car on a credit card - at least you couldn't years ago, something to do with the charges the dealership would incur.

AnotherEmma · 24/02/2020 09:14

You can pay for some of it on a credit card, and it's a good idea to do so, as the purchase is protected.

We put £5k on a credit card which was the max I think, paid the rest by bank transfer IIRC.

Ford Fiesta Titanium X
Quite nippy - took a while to not be over limit just pulling out!
Decent size boot, though not as large imo as some.
Good petrol consumption.
Comfy to drive and be a passenger in.
OK if using 2 car seats in rear, would be only a child in middle seat.
I personally didn't like the keyless element of the driving.

MaudesMum · 24/02/2020 09:41

I've just bought a 5 year old Ford Fiesta Ecoboost - which basically means it has a very efficient engine, and means you pay no road tax - great fuel economy and good fun to drive. If I'd had slightly more money I'd have bought one with a few more bells & whistles. I also thought about electric cars but couldn't justify the extra cost even at second hand level - hopefully that'll be my next car.

PigletJohn · 24/02/2020 09:42

I hear keyless is very convenient

Especially for car thieves.

AlwaysCheddar · 25/02/2020 06:46

Just buy a £3pouch from amazon if you have keyless entry.... so worth it!

Nishky · 25/02/2020 06:50

Try Whatcar reviews - you will get an honest review on all the different models

lovelyupnorth · 25/02/2020 06:54

Do you like your i20 cause the Kia is basically an i10.

Out of your list I’d go for the Kia. Boot and back is tiny though.

But you seem to have a variety of sizes fiesta / Mirca / clio all much bigger than the Kia.

Franticbutterfly · 25/02/2020 07:00

Fiesta all the way. They are great little cars, if I didn’t have so many children I’d definitely get one!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/02/2020 20:36

DH has a pouch for his keys.

My i20 is ok. I had an i20 Coupe before and preferred it but sadly they don't make them now.

Regarding the size of the car I can't decide, hence all the different models! At the moment I'm leaning towards a used Micra N Sport as there's some good deals around
