With a 16 and 13 year old? Would want to stay rurally but not too far from a town/city?

Anywhere on the west coast. Probably say Cork, Clare or Galway.

Squigean · 23/02/2020 16:03

Actually forgot that, just head to Clare. I was trying out being inclusive in my first post adding Cork and Galway.

Should add a disclaimer that I'm very biased to Clare

Bluesheep8 · 23/02/2020 16:07

Cork isn't on the west coast....I'd suggest County Mayo.

Bluesheep8 · 23/02/2020 16:07

Sorry mis read the pp, apologies

Rocketinapocket · 23/02/2020 16:08

Claire. Near Galway.
Or Kerry. Amazing beaches.

OhCaptain · 23/02/2020 16:08

Kerry or Donegal. Galway maybe with a 16 year old!

Whynosnowyet · 23/02/2020 16:09

We are hoping for Dublin next year to go to the zoo and camp!

SegregateMumBev · 23/02/2020 16:10

I spent a great week in Kerry when my 2 were about that age. We climbed Carrantoohil (not for the faint hearted!), went pony trekking, to a water park, drove the Ring of Kerry, played on beaches.

What sort of things do you like doing?

MoltoAgitato · 23/02/2020 16:10

North coast - Game of Thrones and Giants causeway. Harry’s Shack for amazing seafood and also all the buns. Belfast and Derry are close.

DramaAlpaca · 23/02/2020 16:16

Look up wildatlanticway.com for loads of ideas for the west coast.

West Clare is my favourite place in Ireland, and it's not far from Galway, which is a fun, vibrant city with lots going on.

Northern Ireland is stunning as well, with loads to do.

isabellerossignol · 23/02/2020 16:18

Galway, Sligo, Donegal, or the North Coast.

In facy, I'd say do a driving trip and do all four of them!

isabellerossignol · 23/02/2020 16:19

'In fact '

I don't know where my phone gets these weird autocorrects from

Squigean · 23/02/2020 18:08

See @Bluesheep8, I try to be all considerate and it gets me into trouble!! Grin

Though in all seriousness, Cork isn't a bad spot or on the west coast!! and Galway does seem to suit youngsters (well in did back in my day ...)

However, saying all that @Shamazing, just go to Clare...

Shamazing · 23/02/2020 18:18

Ha ha it sounds like wherever we go it'll be good!

Kerry is the most beautiful county! Loads to do there. Ring of Kerry and Killarney are highlights.

lastqueenofscotland · 23/02/2020 18:20

Donegal is stunning but if you don’t want something too remote I wouldn’t head there!
Galway or Dingle

isabellerossignol · 23/02/2020 18:22

Kerry is the most beautiful county

Aw, have you never been to Co Antrim then? WinkGrin

BrownAjah · 23/02/2020 18:27

West coast is lovely. We had a great holiday in Galway. Donegal also lovely

Dustarr73 · 23/02/2020 18:46

Galway is gorgeous. You can go to the islands and Connemara is beautiful. But its a city so its bustling. But its perfect for the ages of your kids.

Corcra · 23/02/2020 18:56

Galway city is more like a big town, great atmosphere, well worth a visit. Walk out to salthill. Fantastic pubs and restaurants. Connemara is so picturesque. Clare is great, bunratty castle, aliwee caves, surfing in lahinch, Ennis for pubs/shops and cafes.
Kerry is beautiful with so, so much to offer. Enjoy!!

Mitsouko67 · 23/02/2020 22:06

Yes to Galway. Stay in and around Spiddal.
You could do worse than Spiddal holiday cottages. You'll need a car. Convenient for Galway and Connemara also the Aran Islands.

minsmum · 23/02/2020 22:14

Wexford or Waterford, take a car with you arrive in Rosslare. Great beaches, Tramore is great fun lots of water sports

CoisFarraige · 23/02/2020 22:18

Give us a few more details - Is it for a summer holiday or different time of year? For how long? And what are the teens into?

Shamazing · 23/02/2020 22:31

It's summer holidays for a week. I want to go to every single one of these places mentioned now! 🤣

I think the thing about Ireland (and I've lived here all my life so I hope I can say this without causing offence!) is that if you get good weather you will he blown away by the beauty of the place. The beaches are incredible, particularly on the Atlantic coast, they are huge and there is plenty of space to go round, (with the possible exception of Portrush East strand on a hot day). If you're unlucky and the weather doesn't play ball, it's always a tantalising feeling of 'I bet it would be lovely here on a warm day...' Grin

But actually, I think you could have a nice holiday almost anywhere in Ireland. I think it caters well to holiday makers, as the standard of accommodation and eating out etc tends to be good.

If budget is a consideration, your money will go a lot further in N Ireland, the cost of living is much cheaper here.

But personally I absolutely love the west coast.
