Mid cycle bleeding

Hi Ladies,
I'm new on here and wondered if anyone could help?
My cycles have always been 28/29 days but since coming off of birth control in early Nov, things haven't been 'normal'. We're not TTC, i just wanted a break from it, so we just avoid DTD around fertile days.
I've been experiencing mid cycle bleeding, so I went to my GP. She took some vaginal swabs to rule out any infection (which came back negative) and sent me for an ultrasound scan (which showed no abnormalities). I am 36, have 3 children and have never experienced this before.
Any ideas of what's happening?

26Nov-6Dec spotting
16-20Dec period
5-9Jan spotting
10-16Jan period
31Jan-4Feb spotting
5-8Feb period
And now I've been spotting again since 20Feb.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you x

I have similar and have been to a GP and a gyno who found nothing wrong so I've just accepted the spotting is part of my cycle now. Apparently its likely to be 'old blood' (presumably left over from the last cycle?) if it's immediately before your actual period each time.

I had the same thing. Started happening out of no where really.

I would have my period, period would end. A few days later I would start spotting, it was almost like bloody discharge.

I went to drs, they referred me to a gynaecologist. He tested me for infections, came back negative, checked my cervix, all fine. He brought me back for an ultrasound - everything looked ok. The dr called it intermenstural bleeding and said it was normal. Funnily enough it doesn't happen at all now I'm on the pill. The pill has stopped my periods completely so must have been period related.

Hope this helps OP!

Ps @spo77ingnightmare - I was 36 when it started well.

I get this too, also starting about the same age. When I'm on the pill it doesn't happen but when I'm not taking it I get spotting like this. I had an ultrasound too but it didn't show anything.
I'm not currently on the pill but hoping to restart soon because it's a bit annoying, although not painful at all.

@BlueTongueSkink - same, it doesn't happen when I'm on the pill either.

For Jan and Feb it looks like the spotting was right before your period, which would make me think low progesterone. I'm not a doctor, but I remember when I came off of hormonal contraception I had similar issues and was told that the body can take some time to get back to producing its own progesterone again.

Are you tracking temperatures to pinpoint your ovulation and fertile period?

It's not for everyone, but I have a friend who is a naturopath who recommended firstly to try lowering stress and upping leafy greens and if that doesn't work to try Vitex/Agnus Castus, which ended up working for me.

For anyone going down this route always see a medical doctor first to rule out anything serious, bear in mind that supplements can interact with any other medication you are on, buy from a reputable source and stop if you get any negative side effects.

I never have this when I'm on the pill either. One of the reasons why I wanted a break from the pill was because it has a negative effect on my libido.
I think I'll try and track my ovulation by using opk's and checking my temperature and cm, as my ovulation day will be different (if I'm even ovulating) with the shorter cycles I've been having.
Thank you all for your help x
