Best non dairy milk for putting into strong tea?

I'm trying a month on vegan just to see how it is. I need to swap out semi skimmed milk which I have a small splash of in my Yorkshire tea.

What's the best alternative? I don't like anything too sweet but find tea without milk too bitter.

I d9nt put sugar in my tea.

Oat milk is the only ethically sourced dairy alternative, so definitely try that first!

Oatly semi all the way but better if you put a tiny bit in the mug first and then add the water IMO.

Oat milk works very well with Earl Grey

Another vote for Oatly barista !

HeronLanyon · 22/02/2020 21:36

Oat or almond milk. I can’t find any type of soy milk which works. They all curdle. Must be my water.
Oatley is lovely.

Oatly barista. I had to go dairy free because of my youngest sons allergies and even though he can cope with dairy through me now I still prefer this I'm hot drinks to cows milk

FlamingoAndJohn · 23/02/2020 09:02

Just thinking about all this Oatly love.
One thing you might not know is that you can get Oatly barista from your milk man! (Assuming they are through Milk and More.)

When there was a shortage a year or so ago they were the only people who had any left.

BlodwynBludd · 23/02/2020 09:07

Morrisons have just started an own brand oat milk which has the same calcium content as oatly ( which I love) but it's 85p so much cheaper than oatly.

FelicityFebruary · 23/02/2020 11:52

Milkman turned from bottles to cartons here so I gave up using them.

bobstersmum · 23/02/2020 11:57

Another oat milk lover here! My son has had it for well over a year as he is dairy intolerant, I have swapped to it myself now and I love it. Another thing I found out recently that may be of interest is that Flora Buttery is completely Vegan! The best dairy alternative I've found and is great for toast as well as baking. The rest are really bland and oily.

pedanticstyleguide · 04/03/2020 08:51

I have finally got around to trying Oatly barista. It is good in my porridge. It's ok in coffee but there is a bit of a greasy after-taste. I've not tried it in tea. Although if it's quite sweet it might get over the fact that I take sugar in tea (I don't need it in coffee).

FlamingoAndJohn · 04/03/2020 12:39

If you’re finding it a bit ‘fatty’ then try normal Oatly.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 04/03/2020 12:45

Oatly! Im not vegan, but wanted to try it out. Please be aware though NOTHING (imo) tastes like regular milk.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/03/2020 12:50

Soya for me,Oatly tastes like porridge mixed in your cuppa imo!

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 04/03/2020 12:53

Very easy to make your own cashew milk. Doesn’t need strained!

Fairylea · 04/03/2020 12:57

Can’t stand oak milk!

My personal choice is soya milk but I’m very fussy and only like the Tesco own brand non sweetened one - everything else, even the other supermarket brand non sweetened ones all taste sweet and I hate them. Even my dh is the same. He can tell instantly whether the soya milk is tesco or not just by a sip of the tea!

Alpro anything tastes vile to me. All too sweet.

NotwhereIshouldbe · 04/03/2020 12:57

We use oat milk but I do find the tea can taste a bit odd but I've just discovered PG tips tea made for dairy free milk and it improves the taste with oat milk!

Toria70 · 04/03/2020 12:57

Oatly in coffee, and unsweetened Soya wholebean in tea.

We've also got a Bosch Skyline kettle that you can set the water temperature on and I set to 90c for my drinks. That stops any curdling too.

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 04/03/2020 12:58

Oatly barista here too

nickname302 · 04/03/2020 13:00

Oatly, not barista though as that's meant for coffee so is too creamy for tea IMO. The semi skimmed or original are perfect, just remember to shake it before use.
