Anyone else still waiting to 'grow out of' travel sickness?

Dont think it's going to happen now sadly, but would be interested in others' experiences of severe travel sickness. Anything more than about 5 miles and I have to take medication, and even then I might still throw up. Anyone else suffer similarly?

We're off on a road trip for a month soon and other than scopolamine patches, am not aware of anything else that will help. This level of nausea is way beyond ginger, looking at the horizon, sitting in the front etc, have any of you found something that works?

Also, as a migraine sufferer and someone who gets severe post-op nausea and vomiting, I'd be interested to know if any fellow vomiters have the same combination of symptoms.

I grew into it. Never had travel sickness until pregnant now won't go away

If Dramamime (dimenhydrate) still makes you drowsy try Dramamime Less Drowsy (meclizine) in Walmart or large drugstores.Walmart sell their own-brand version

Meclizine was the active ingredient in the "Sea Legs" brand that they stopped selling here. All the others are dangerously drowsy for me.

Sea Legs didnt work for me, but will definitely pick up some Dramamine to try. Did it used to be available in the UK? I seem to remember it. Hyoscine has such horrible side effects, it would be great to find something else that works and has less impact.

Good to know - I buy Bonine in Walmart (also meclizine) but it's slightly more expensive than these.

Looks like you can buy it in 100s too

Another stugeron user. It makes me dozy and I force myself to sleep on long journeys. Motorways am fine and planes without turbulence, but throw up on fairground rides, in pregnancy, travelling backwards, watching certain movies, when drunk and I can't even look at a boat. Even felt nauseous in the wave pool on holiday! I'm afraid it's got worse with age too.

I have mostly grown out of it, exceptions are many and varied but include

sitting in the back of the car
not facing direction of travel
reading (phone/maps) ...even having something on my lap (like an open map)can tip me over the edge
car heating...certain cars smell weird
sunshine leading to migraine leading to hurling

Dh once got offered a Renault Espace at a great price, all the extras, would have been great as we have three kids and dogs, I had to be helped from the car after a 10 minute test drive, looking so ill the car salesman was concerned enough to ponder calling a doctor! I had to use everything I had not to throw up all over the showroom.

so mostly i am not actually sick but just icky yicky and known as a poor traveller.

Yes to watching spinning, even on TV.
Yes! I can't go on swings either. I also downloaded an app which scrolls sheet music across the screen - trouble is, it makes the whole room scroll! Strangely, no sickness in pregnancy at all. In fact, better than normal!

I’m nearly 40 and it’s just something that has always plagued me
