Toddler reins recommendations

Hello all
I have a 23 month old 25-50 centile so not big.
I have purchased many many brands of reins, diono/Mothercare etc however none seem to be wide enough to go over his coat.

I know the backpack reins might be a solution but I want the more standard reins so I can keep them on him when he's in the pram etc.

Anyone know any larger brands that fit over a puffy coat?

Just hold their hand

Reins are safer and far more comfortable for the child than walking around with their hand in the air.

Another vote for Boots reins, they were the biggest we could find for fitting over coats then a pair of backpack reins for once they're walking more often than using the pushchair.

Hand holding also good but I love having the option of reins as it allows him freedom to explore more/touch stuff/feel less dragged along but i know he won’t be able to run into the road/fall into water etc.

I live on a major road in London with very fast lorries (I've seen 3 major accidents from my window !) and a smaller child so definitely need the reins lol

Munchkin were good for us and ds is not small.

Great thanks will take a look!
Was v disappointed that the diono ones were small as they are a very sturdy Velcro which is good for my mum who has slightly got arthritis on her hands

Have you tried the Clippasafe ones? www.clippasafe.co.uk/shop/home-safety/harnesses-reins. They are very adjustable and fit up to four years of age. The walking strap is clever as it can be used short and attached to both sides like traditional reins or long with one attachment like the backpack style ones. We used them as a harness in their pram when they wanted to sit upright in it rather than lying down.

Oh thanks i have not. Will take a look

We got hobbledehoo ones. They’re kind of a sports harness as well, fit up to age 7 I think, and have a handle front and back which is more handy than you might expect.
The only thing is, people will often squint at their chest then say ‘why does your baby say ‘horrible’?’

I used reins for children and grandchildren as an extra to holding hands. They were useful when trying to stop DGS from always running off when he was about 4 as the threat of the reins coming out again kept him close! Children need to be safe and to feel safe.
