It's sore and so offputting. I bought Zovirax but it's been a week and the blasted thing is cracking every time I open my mouth.

What can I do?!

Fucidin cream? Ask a pharmacist tomorrow

formerbabe · 21/02/2020 21:10

See your gp?

Can't imagine bothering GP with it. I'll pop into the pharmacist tomorrow.

Yes, pharmacist is your best bet. They may be able to give you something stronger than Zovirax - or completely different, if it's not a cold sore.

APatchyTomCat · 21/02/2020 21:15

It most likely just is a cold sore (I say 'just', bloody painful). Sad
Zovirax only works if you can apply it at the very first tingle, if the blister has started, then they can last a few weeks.

PerfectlyWrapped · 21/02/2020 21:17

I can't stand having this for a few weeks. I'm not vain but I hate having it on my face!

Could it be impetigo? If it’s crusty / oozy definitely see a pharmacist and potentially a doc. You could need a course of antibiotics if it’s bacterial.

formerbabe · 21/02/2020 21:19

I had similar and spent a fortune on coldsore creams...went to gp and it was an infection. Got a cream on prescription which sorted it straight out...wish I'd gone to see the doctor sooner.

wonderrotunda · 21/02/2020 21:20

If it’s in the corner of your mouth (cracking sounds like it is) it could be vitamin deficiency

PerfectlyWrapped · 21/02/2020 21:20

It's not oozy but did go a bit crusty. I had hoped that was healing... is impetigo not v infectious?

OP posts:
Jade1976 · 21/02/2020 21:22

Is it at the corner of your mouth?

dontticklethetoad · 21/02/2020 21:23

I was going to suggest impetigo too. Fucidin is your friend.

PerfectlyWrapped · 21/02/2020 21:25

Yes, right in the corner.

Cuddling57 · 21/02/2020 21:25

Savlon

Saisong · 21/02/2020 21:26

I had one recently and I'm not at all prone to cold sores. It was horrible and went on and on. I used Zovirax but it took quite a while and I was applying it at every opportunity. It can't hurt asking the pharmacist if there is anything stronger. I think there must be a particularly virulent strain going round.

PerfectlyWrapped · 21/02/2020 21:27

This is the first thing I've ever had too! I used to get chapped lips but this is definitely worse looking.

OP posts:
Ellegeebee · 21/02/2020 21:34

I reckon it’s not a cold sore (especially if you’ve not had one before) sounds like Angular Cheilitis, I’ve had them before when i’ve been run down, try plain Vaseline and a good vitamin supplement maybe, hope it clears soon.

HarleyQuinnRocks · 21/02/2020 21:37

I had this for weeks on both corners. Only thing that shifted it in the end was tea tree oil and vaseline.

Sold sore cream was useless.

PerfectlyWrapped · 21/02/2020 21:41

Tea tree oil sounds stingy Shock

GameofPhones · 21/02/2020 21:43

Could be this, treating myself at the moment.

AmazingGreats · 21/02/2020 21:44

When I had this I started supplementing with zinc and vit c and finally started clearing up. Have used fungal cream in the past. Never had a cold sore, move is angular cheilitis

AmazingGreats · 21/02/2020 21:44

But has turned into impetigo in the past too

outlinedinwhite · 21/02/2020 21:46

It's angular cheilitis.

Oregano supplements and thrush cream.

It'll be gone in a week or so.

GameofPhones · 21/02/2020 21:50

I am using more frequent teeth brushing and mouthwash, and keeping the corners dry. Going away already.
