Microbeads in face wash?

I have just purchased the following face wash: Himalaya herbals lemon-honey. I bought it online and received this morning. I’ve had a look at it and it looks like it has Microbeads in it... I thought products that contain plastic Microbeads were now banned in the Uk...I’ve checked the ingredients, but cannot see the culprit in the list, however the beads are blue and I’m almost certain it’s plastic (tried to bite some to check) I’m really annoyed. I’ve contacted a website to see if they could help me checking... Should I contact the company I bought it from? Should I remind them of the ban? Thankfully it wasn’t very expensive so easily replaced but as I’m usually quite diligent, I’m annoyed with myself. Is there anyone who could help?

Coconut oil and a bit of sugar would do the trick.

Loving your commitment to finding out what the beads are by ingesting them Grin

OP, I know it’s not what you asking about, but have you tried a facial oil to regulate oily skink?

Ask Clarins fir a sample of theirs, they are usually good with that.

Do you eat fish @florriefloflorence? Because then you are eating the micro beads.

@AudacityOfHope felt somewhat stupid when I realised I had swallowed a couple ConfusedBlush but they definitely had that bouncy feel under the tooth though. I have written to fragrance direct to ask for confirmation and copies the gov Uk page about the ban on micro beads, see if they get back to me. @Chardonnaysdistant (sorry i can’t see the rest of your username) yes I have I used hazelnut oil as it’s meant to help regulate oily skin but has not worked very well. But thanks for the advice 👍

Plastics created from fossil fuels don’t contribute to climate change until you burn them and release the CO2 Chardonnay. If they’re flushed into the sea and eaten by fish then they’re not heating the planet. Of course that doesn’t make them acceptable, especially for something as unnecessary and easily substituted as exfoliant beads, but it’s a different problem from global warming.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 21/02/2020 13:23

OK, that makes sense.

Easterbunnyboiler20 · 21/02/2020 13:56

@IHadADreamWhichWasNotAllADream there’s a carbon footprint in the actual production of plastics though.

IHadADreamWhichWasNotAllADream · 21/02/2020 14:31

Everything has a carbon footprint in its manufacture and distribution, but that’s not necessarily greater for plastic micro beads than for apricot kernels, rice germ or even cotton flannels. For low-tech commodities like that, cost is often a decent proxy for embedded energy expenditure and thus for carbon footprint, and plastics have become so ubiquitous for disposable goods precisely because they’re cheap and lightweight. Unfortunately, as we’re all now becoming aware, there are other serious downsides.

Try using a cleansing oil to regulate your oily skin. Most face washes for oily skin strip the oil away, so your skin thinks it's going to dry out and produces even more oil, then you're stuck in a vicious circle. I recommend the Body Shop Chamomile Cleansing Balm (in a tin - buy online, it's cheaper) or The Sanctuary Cleansing Oil.

Also, your face might be oily because it's dehydrated i.e lacking water. Your skin knows it's drying up but it can't produce water, so it does the only thing it can do to help; produce more oil. A couple of layers of a watery hydrating toner after washing your face and before applying your
serum / moisturiser might help.

Source: my skin used to be insanely oily and now it isn't.

Amfeelingfline · 21/02/2020 21:56

Thanks for that @BemidjiMinnesota, I have some of that so will try it, have also got a few bits and bobs to try and get it sorted, as it’s not getting any better as I’m getting older, I’m also trying to get into a better routine of using serum and appropriate moisturiser but I’m finding it hard to find one that suits. My dad’s skin is really oily and apart from his good looks (Wink) looks like also inherited his rubbish skin!

Yes, having an oily face is a pain, but it really pays dividends as you get older as we don't wrinkle so much!

Your skin might react differently, but what really worked for me was trying to add hydration at every step. My routine is:

  1. Oil cleanser
  2. Hydrating 2nd cleanser (recommend Neutrogena Hydroboost gel)
  3. 3 thin layers of watery hydrating toner
  4. Superdrug Simply Pure serum
  5. The Ordinary Natural Moisturising Factors or Aldi moisturiser mixed with...
  6. ...a few drops of an oil from The Ordinary (B Oil, Rosehip and Squalene are all good)

This stuff is all way cheaper than the Dermalogica and Elemis that I used to use, but my skin has never looked better.

I stopped using anything that was meant for oily skin, because this always made my skin even oilier in the long run. So clay masks and stripping cleansers were out. It's really helped. My make up doesn't slide right off my face anymore, and my moisturiser actually sinks into my skin, instead of sitting on top.

Have you ever tried a chemical exfoliator instead of a gritty one? It's gentler for your skin, like the difference between scouring burnt on food off a pan with wire wool vs leaving the pan to soak so the food wipes off easily. Lactic Acid, Vitamin C and BHAs are all good (just not all together, if you can feel molecules of air brushing past your face then you've exfoliated too much!)

Good luck Flowers and please post an update about what you are supposed to do with the microbeads.

Amfeelingfline · 22/02/2020 14:52

@BemidjiMinnesota thanks for the advice, I will look into it and to incorporate some of the products I use into more of a routine, it is a pain indeed, especially as you said make up, especially foundation looks weird after a few hours, and summer months are just a pain. Anyway.. yes i will update re: what the company says and in the mean time will try and sieve them through with a cloth (not used the face wash since finding about the beads)

Wow shocked at the attitude of not caring!

Amfeelingfline · 24/02/2020 22:11

Small update: fragrance direct has got back to me to say they are contacting the manufacturer and launching an investigation. Also refunded me in full. I will ask them if they can confirm if it does contain micro beads as not clearly labelled and if they can keep me updated on the investigation. Also it doesn’t look that this product is being sold on there anymore so yay! 😁 good outcome on that one I think
