Protein and iron

Morning all!
I’m after ways to increase protein and iron for my 2 year old please. He’s going through a fussy eating stage. Won’t eat meat, struggle to get veg and fruit in him, I have to disguise veg in baked beans! Won’t eat cheese unless that’s hidden in beans/egg/mash.
I’ve read a little about seeds but how much and which seeds would I give to him, can I buy from a supermarket or do they have to be from Holland & Barrett? I’m thinking of blending them finely and adding to his breakfast.
Thanks all!

Honestly, I wouldn’t worry unduly. Very few children are deficient in protein in the UK. Does he drink milk? That’s a good source of protein as are baked beans. What about a multivitamin?

You could try mixing flaxseed with some of his cereal if you’re worried as that is high in protein. But don’t go overboard- it’s also high in fibre and too much could upset his tummy.

He has a small cup of milk at breakfast then a big cup at bedtime which I add well baby multivitamins to. He always has weetabix/cornflakes/porridge for breakfast so I can get more milk into him that way.
I worry as he just won’t eat meat. He has beans a few times a week to try hide veg in but even then reading on the internet beans are bad.
I probably am worrying too much due to looking at google!

Beans aren’t bad at all. Any plenty of people raise healthy toddlers as vegetarians so meat isn’t a prerequisite for good nutrition.

It sounds like you’re doing all the right things. Just keep encouraging him to try new things and the chances are he will eventually. If he makes you feel better, my DD1 went through a loooong phases (several months) of refusing to eat anything but apricot flavoured fromage frais, white bread and butter and cheddar cheese. I was tearing my hair out at the time but it didn’t last forever. She’s a fit and healthy 10 year old now who completes at a national level for her sport. Clearly, any lasting effects from her poor toddler diet were minimal!

Thank you for your reassurance! I always let him do what he likes when he comes over to my plate too. Sometimes he touches the food, sometimes he will just look and walk away and sometimes he even takes the food and eats it! I will keep encouraging him.
