Anyone with an EU passport who applied for British citizenship WITHOUT giving up your EU country passport - how?

I currently have an eu country citizenship and wish to apply for British citizenship whilst still keeping the EU one to become a dual citizen. Do I just need to apply for British citizenship via the usual naturalisation route? I am worried my EU country citizenship will be removed if I get accepted for British citizenship as on the British citizenship application form, it does not ask whether I want to also keep the current citizenship.

I have already checked and my EU country permits dual citizenship with UK at the moment.

Not eu to U.K. but I applied and was granted an eu citizenship as a holder of another citizenship and it didn’t effect my original citizenship at all. Eventually I will apply for U.K. citizenship too.

As long as both countries allow dual citizenship you should be fine.

my dh is Dutch.
It is the choice of each country whether or not they allow their citizens to hold dual citizenship. So you can in some places and can't in others.

Until recently The Netherlands wouldn't allow it, so dh would have had to relinquish his Dutch citizenship to become British. They have sonce changed their law, and now he can hold both.

he hasn't done it yet, but will apply for British citizenship, and keep his Dutch, it is just more expensive keeping 2 passports running.

Thanks but I meant the actual application process logistically how would I have to apply? is it the same as someone wishing to quit the EU citizenship and become a British would do?As in the same naturalisation application form?

Does your country of origin issue ID cards as well as passports? I got a German passport that I sent to the HO with all the other documents and kept my ID card, so I could still travel whilst waiting for the application to be processed. Once you are naturalized you will have to send your EU passport in again (temporarily) to get your first British passport. I presume that both nationalities will then be stated on your passport(s).

It's difficult to give advice without knowing which country you hold citizenship with.

However I would contact your consulate and ask if their is any process you need to follow to retain your citizenship before applying for naturalisation in the UK.

I hold 3 passports, UK, an EU and a non EU.

The EU one didn't require any special permission before applying for naturalisation, however my non-EU one did.

It is nothing to do with your UK application though, there is no box to tick for retaining citizenship. It's something separate that you have to investigate before you start the application process.

Since you’ve already checked that dual citizenship is allowed
You just apply to naturalise for British citizenship.
Then you get it.
Then you are dual.
its that simple.

When you go to get a British passport, that is when you disclose the details of your other passport and nationality. It’s easy.

Check with your EU country on their citizenship rules. Usually you can only lose a citizenship if you joined another country’s armed forces, were stripped of it due to major crime like terrorism, or you renounced the citizenship which is a whole set of paperwork. Some countries hold that naturalising with another citizenship is renouncing your original citizenship, but these are countries that do not allow dual citizenship and you said you’d already checked?
Call your embassy/consulate if in any doubt.

My home country does not allow dual citizenship. A lot of people get away with simply being quiet about it. Keep their passport for visiting home, use British or other passport for holidays abroad. But this isn't a solution, once the passport expires - you're screwed and can even be fined for fraud.
