Quick question about eBay selling

Hi I've just sold my first item on eBay and eBay is telling me that I need to print a postage label. Do I have to do this? Or can I just go to the post office and send it without that?

Bit annoying if I have to do this label thing as I have no printer!

Also the postage label that eBay is giving me has an address I haven't lived in for about 10 years! I've had 3 new addresses since then. My account has my current address and I can't work out how the old one is showing on the label or how to remove it. I'm scared I'll get bad feedback if I don't post soon but I'm very confused by all this.

You can post it yourself. You get other choices if you do it through ebay, I often use one of the courier services like Hermes because it is cheaper.

I don't know about your address, have you checked your address on paypal?

Oh I see. I've found eBay a really confusing site to use as a seller so far! It's not user friendly at all! Thank you for the quick response!

No it's very weird, my address is correct on PayPal and in my eBay account settings so really can't figure out why the label has my old one

Just write address on the parcel. The print Postage Label option is there to get you to buy the postage from eBay. Just use the address. I've got a feedback of over 2200 - I only click the Print Postage Label to find out where to send stuff.

The address question is a bit more problematical. Try signing in to eBay then going here:

Sorry this is going to be a dumb question, but when you use Hermes etc, do they come to your house to pick up the package, or how do they get from you to Hermes?

Ah that took me to the right place to change my dispatch address. Thank you sandman! I wasn't getting that option in the address bit I was in (seriously, I know I'm coming across as a bit stupid because I don't understand how couriers work, but I still think eBay is a terribly made website)

Go to the my hermes website and you get the option of having the parcel collected from your home address or taking it to a Parcel Shop which works out slightly cheaper. There are 100s of them.

It does seem confusing at first but you will soon get the hang of it. I started having a clear out a few months ago, it stressed me so much to start off with. I've sold £10k worth of stuff and I am longing for the day when it is all gone but I'm liking the money.

TeacupDrama · 19/02/2020 17:11

once you get the hang of it ebay is easy to sell from howver I do find it easier using the computer rather than app version

upto 2kg small parcel size there is onlya few pennies difference in pstage between royal mail and hermes

over 2kg couriers are much much cheaper

you can write name on parcel and take to post office then insert tracking number in from receipt, printing you own labels saves 10p ie a small parcel is 2.90 instead of £3 and of course it automatically uploads tracking number so less quibbles about delivery

for hermes it is 60p extra if they collect form your house rather than drop off, if you don't have a printer they can't collect from house as there is no label to scan, you can order Hermes online and get the label rpinted in store

you can save listings as templates so when you sell next item you only have to change title photos and a bit of description

I sell a lot through ebay and find it straightforward but I guess when you are new to selling it is a bit confusing, as you are new to selling you won't be able to sell many items to start with until you start getting good feedback, but however desparate you are for feedback never ever ask buyers for it,

pegasus02 · 20/02/2020 14:04

Teacup, sorry lurking here, can I ask why I shouldn't ask for buyer feedback? Cheers

TheSandman · 20/02/2020 14:20

I'm not sure. I just know as a buyer it gets a bit irksome getting "Please leave me feedback!" messages from people. I'll leave feedback in my own good time when I have a spare moment - I don't want my inbox cluttered up with needy whines when I'm trying to do other stuff.

TeacupDrama · 20/02/2020 16:01

if you ask for feedback they may mark you down on communication at least it annoys people there is no obligation to leave it; no feedback is better than half hearted feedback
"this was item was fine so was postage but felt hassled by seller messages" is not a good look
most feedback says nothing as a seller what can you say except buyer paid promptly as a buyer the feedback tends to say something like "item as described arrived on time all good" but if it wasn't as described or didn't arrive you would already have had a message from me about it

often buyers leave feedback in bulk maybe once a week or even once a month all saying exactly the same thing I copy the same phrase to everyone
leaving feedback is optional the real deal is
I pay for it you wrap it send it asap by agreed method
