A bit like on the TV programme live well for less we have been trying to swap some of our brands to cheaper ones.

I like golden syrup on my weetabix some mornings for breakfast. We got the supermarket own version instead of Tate and Lyle and it’s horrible. Tastes nothing like golden syrup. Yuk, won’t buy that again.

I agree about supermarket own brand golden syrup. I bought Tesco’s version and it’s awful.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 19/02/2020 09:57

Coca Cola, and peanut butter had to be sunpat.

Bezalelle · 19/02/2020 09:59

I wouldn't swap an Escort for a Focus.

Skyejuly · 19/02/2020 10:00

Pesto

Jarvisisgod · 19/02/2020 10:04

Own brand food is rank. Never tasted a nice one.

Geekster1963 · 19/02/2020 10:25

My whole shop is usually smart price or everyday value!

user1493413286 · 19/02/2020 10:30

I won’t swap chocolate digestives or tea, I’ve tried and it’s just not as good. Also fairy liquid genuinely does last longer.

MrsDilligaf · 19/02/2020 10:31

Anchor butter. Don't fob me off with your pretend versions. Nothing but Anchor will do.

BonSoirMonCherie · 19/02/2020 10:35

Marmite, any supermarket version is just revolting.

jackparlabane · 19/02/2020 10:51

Ketchup has to be Heinz, preferably low sugar/salt. Cheerios for one child, own-brand for the child who doesn't like them.

Otherwise own-brands as good or even better, like Sainsburys or Lidl nutella.

Aerielview · 19/02/2020 11:10

Real butter

MartyrGuacamole · 19/02/2020 12:34

Yorkshire tea. Got to be real salted butter but not bothered which real butter. I prefer Coke Zero over other cola drinks. Other than that we usually pick up a combo of what's on offer/in season and happy to try new brands in different shops.

BeeFarseer · 19/02/2020 12:37

Heinz baked beans.

No other brand comes close.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 19/02/2020 12:44

I'm not fussed about most things and just get the cheapest version possible. The only things I won't budge on are gü chocolate spread, chocolate and fairy liquid. Luckily we can usually get them cheap enough from Home Bargains or B&Ms.

inwood · 19/02/2020 12:46

Tinned tomatoes
Fairy liquid
Regina Kitchen paper
Meat

feelingverylazytoday · 19/02/2020 12:46

I buy whatever's cheapest, which is usually the supermarket value brand.

Dumbledoresgirl · 19/02/2020 12:51

I am happy with most supermarket stuff but I recently bought Tesco golden syrup and couldn't wait for it to be finished so I could go back to Tate and Lyle. Never again!

I also agree about Fairy Liquid.

Londonsuffolkmummy · 19/02/2020 12:51

Coffee kitchen roll ketchup jam

ParkheadParadise · 19/02/2020 12:51

Coca Cola
Tomato Sauce - Heinz
Baked Beans - Heinz
Irn Bru - Barrs

Londonsuffolkmummy · 19/02/2020 12:51

Cleaning products I don’t use own brand

HoneysuckIejasmine · 19/02/2020 12:52

I always buy supermarket brands but I do have preferences ... Asda baked beans, Morrisons peanut butter, Tesco prawn shells etc. I alternate which shop I use and buy in bulk if necessary.

santasbigbum · 19/02/2020 13:10

Heinz beans
Diet Coke

I've just bought own brand ketchup as it was less than half the price. Waiting to see if DC notices

I did say this about Lurpak spreadable but the Morrison's and Tesco ones have the same combination of butter, rapeseed oil etc so I have swapped

Nowayorhighway · 19/02/2020 13:14

I used to say I’d only use Heinz ketchup and beans and Hellman’s mayonnaise but then I discovered Aldi and their version is brilliant.

I wouldn’t buy cheap fizzy drinks. I rarely buy them anyway but when I do it’s either Coca Cola or Pepsi. I won’t buy cheap chocolate.

ElderAve · 19/02/2020 13:22

I think most of the mainstream supermarket own brand products are vastly inferior, but have found that the Lidl "imitations" are almost always very good.

The only branded things I buy now are Heinz beans, tomato soup and ketchup and real HP sauce but TBH that's only because it's so ingrained that we "need" them I haven't been brave enough to try the Lidl version. I stuck with Hellman's mayo for years but the Lidl one is excellent. Oh and Lurpak spreadable. The Lidl version is OK but not as good.
